A lot of people get confused about what a serving of alcohol is because most mixed drinks or glasses of alcohol you have are more than one serving. It would be an insult to the entire empire for the empress to work as a guard. I cannot express how deeply degrading that would be for an empress. Other countries with mock their empire for generations. It would degrade any authority that the emperor and empress had over the nobles.
I don't even know how to describe how unrealistic and stupid this plot twist is. Nobility in both Eastern and Western cultures does not work like this. The empress does not ever for any reason work as the hired help.

Writing should be held to some standards. All writing. One of the most basic standards is that it needs to be logical. Readers should be able to believe what's written is something that could actually happen. This is why world building is actually really important for fantasy, because if you build a world where impossible things could actually happen and then the reader will believe those things could actually happen.
It's much harder to do in depth world building in a manhwa, especially one that's so focused on romance rather than the world at large (this is actually why Turning is so special!). This means that authors will often rely on tropes or known quantities within the world to make it easier to establish their world building. This is why historic settings are so popular, in a historic setting we all sort of understand how the world works so you don't have to explain it. You only have to explain the extra fantasy stuff you're adding in.
So far there's been a little bit of fantasy with the rules of the worlds, but there's also been very clear hierarchy. The emperor has shown again and again that his orders must be followed. The guards follow his orders and are subordinate to him. The guards have also been shown to be subordinate to other nobles because they are workers first even if they are nobles otherwise. This is established world building that the author has demonstrated.
Now the author is taking that world building and throwing it away. They're throwing away the historical context that comes with the setting and they're throwing away what they've already built... All to make the empress a worker. Which means all of the established hierarchy and authority and this entire empire is garbage. The empress has no authority. The emperor has no authority. Now the guards tell the emperor what to do. Now, somehow the emperor and empress are subordinate to the guards and the workers order the emperor and the empress around.
You're not wrong to say that I should just suspend my disbelief but I'm not just pointing out that it's not believable, I'm pointing out that this is a fundamental mistake that the author has made. This is bad writing.
They actually used to teach you to analyze everything you read this way in school. The degradation of our education system is a travesty. This sort of writing shouldn't be defended but instead should be criticized and used as an example to better your understanding of better writing.

I understand that reading comprehension is very difficult for young people. It's not your fault, it's because they didn't teach you in school. I'm so sorry. I'm actually not being condescending or facetious here at all, I genuinely feel so bad that young people are not getting an education that includes reading comprehension. It makes me angry that you aren't being taught how to break down stories and writing in a way that deepens your understanding of them and allows you to truly understand what good writing is. There's a reason why old people don't read young adult fiction and why great authors don't write young adult fiction.
If you actually read what I wrote, I'm actually breaking down the authors world building and how the author completely broke their own world building by adding this in.
I'm not upset because the main character is a guard. I'm criticizing the author's bad writing and how the author undermined their own writing by adding in this ridiculous story point. I'm simply trying to hold these authors to a higher standard because I want to read quality stories.
According to the story that the author wrote previous to this chapter, that's exactly how the world worked. The emperor commands the imperial knights and the guards. Period. They are subordinate to him. Now suddenly, they're in charge of the emperor and the empress.
Apparently the emperor and empress are just figureheads, like the king of England is now, and they have no real power.
Apparently the head of the imperial nights is the one actually running the country.
Until the author changes their mind again and breaks the world they built again.
tbh at one point i was also questionning the plot. but after some time i realized that the story (imo rn) is not aiming for a heavy drama/angsty stuff. those kinds of stories are usually the ones who are more accurate even with the smallest details and this story isn't. so i just let go of expectations and read this story lightly (?)

And again chill, i read this story with no expectation. It's good to think and analyze things but sometimes you just need to enjoy you know. We can do the annalizing in places where thats the focus like in a thriller. But this is a bl romance with a hint of comedy. Things don't make sense because the author just want to write a fun romance.

I don't usually read manhua because I find that authors will move too fast and leave a lot out. This author is definitely doing that but because the translator knows the novel so well they are filling in a lot of the blanks and I'm still really enjoying the story.

I think I might like this trope... You know, where the MC is terrified of the ML the point where it's almost pathological. I just feel like I'm not getting to know who the MC is at all, he's only afraid and that's his whole personality. It just feels very one-dimensional to me as a reader.
I'm hoping we'll see more personality from the MC soon.
