Literally no romance or true plot in this story at this point the ml is just a guest character half the story is flashbacks so truly no idea what the timeline is like. At this point you might as well have just started with them as teens and then progressed to them now.

I completely agree with everyone saying that she would struggle with such a long and dangerous journey but that resilience only builds with experience. The more he shelters her from doing anything the more opportunities she misses. He needs to stop treating her like a caged bird and let her experience life and try and fail and try again and succeed.
