i'm glad the manhwa seems to be taking this part of the story quicker bc fucking hell did it drag on in the novel
the story is good and at first the antagonism between the guide and esper was interesting but it's dragged on so long i think the author is going to really struggle with having some kind of romance make sense
once you stop caring about someone that's it, it's done
if they're going for an unreliable narrator situation (ie mc is lying to himself) they're not doing it right bc there's no indication of that in his internal narrative, which will make a sudden revelation seem like it's coming out of nowhere
obviously now that the guide doesn't care about the esper he'll suddenly start to care more or whatever but it just feels too little too late

You forget to consider event that changes the MC's view on things. It the event is good enough, it can be a forgiveable plot.
I don't think the event can be a life save thing. They do that all the time.
So it will have to be the top gaining more of a conscious and being accountable for his actions and behavior.
So I'm betting slow burn so we can see actually growth.
