I keep seeing comments about Inés didn’t have a choice in her marriage. The story doesn’t support this. Inés always chose her own husbands. There will be a flashback that shows she was into Oscar. It should be a couple chapters ahead. She even used to affectionately call him “My Oscar”. When she was young, she even played hard to get for Oscar. She used to have her father take her to Mendoza and then act standoffish to entice Oscar.

There is a part the manhwa cut before this dream that shows Ines’s self-reflection on the way she judged Carcel solely based on rumors. During that reflection, she said this about Carcel:

“Not getting married was considered a major flaw, REGARDLESS OF GENDER, and he, who was considered to be the most handsome man in the world beyond borders, was too conspicuous wherever he was. When Cárcel did one thing, ten stories were created the next day.”

The above is Ines saying that “both” men and women are expected to get married if they’re nobles.

Later, Inés also states she doesn’t regret her choice of choosing Cárcel as her husband. So when people here talking about Inés didn’t have a choice, they’re making false statements. Inés never regrets choosing Cárcel. Ines also believes that a man and woman should marry more than Carcel believes it. Inés also believes in having children. She will never stop wanting a child now or in the future. In short, Ines is thoroughly an aristocrat and believes in the obligations of aristocrats. She and Carcel will have a big fight in the future about children and she even physically beats him up. lol Marriage and children are very important to Ines.

I agree about Ines’s take on marriage and children you mentioned. Even a few chapters ago Ines was thinking that having a child is what determines your status in the high society.
But I think her marriages with the crown prince was forced. She chose him the first time but after living as his wife when she regressed she tried to get out it but her family pushed it through. Then another regression and she ran away with Emilio to get out of that marriage but was still tracked down and was pushed to marry the crown prince again that’s why she chose Carcel as a child in this current lifetime because only by choosing him can she get away from the crown prince.
You can see from this last chapter too. Even after finding out what was happening to her - even if it pained him her brother told her to keep her relationship with the prince amicable. That is their family true stance.

Wrong. You probably didn’t read my comment a page or two ago. You guys are all making erroneous assumptions. Ines chose Oscar in the crown princess timeline. She even used to seek him out to flirt with him. There will be a flashback to that timeline soon that shows her disparaging Carcel in her thoughts because she said the 14 years old Carcel made “Her Oscar” seem like he wasn’t the most desirable man in the world.

It’s later that Ines became disillusioned by Oscar. The first years of their marriage were good but then their marriage turned dark because Oscar became a debauched man. He basically began to show his true colors. He no longer pretended to be nice to fool her. That’s when things started to go very wrong. Then she killed herself because she didn’t want her brother, who was determined to kill Oscar, to ruin his life and the Valeztena family.

After she committed suicide, she regressed to 16 years old. She decided she couldn’t marry Oscar again and sought to escape. Her great idea was to seduce/dubcon the stranger who came to paint her portrait for the national wedding and runaway with him to escape Oscar. In other words, anyone who has read the novel can tell you she chose the painter to use him to run away with. None of that solved anything because this story is written from a historical setting instead of a fantasy setting. That meant, noble women who run away and put their family in trouble will endure severe consequences. It doesn’t help that she humiliated the imperial family by running away with a stranger whom nobody knew, including her family, three months before her wedding. The imperial families and the nobles wanted the sinner brought back and punished with her family. Of course Valeztena have enemies so the nobles relished their downfall through Ines’s actions and demanded both her and her family be punished. Ines again ends up killing herself.

Then she regresses with a lot more calm and rational head. She even berates her 16 year old self for running away with a man whom she didn’t know. She said fortunately for her, the man turned out to be a decent person that fit the delusions of a 16 year old girl. However, this time around, she decided she will not act rashly and she plotted a path so she can die peacefully. She had no desire whatsoever to repeat her mistakes or ruin her life and anybody else’s life. She decided to choose Carcel solely based on rumors. She wanted someone she thought was a playboy. So, just like she chose to use the painter to escape Oscar, she chose to use Carcel to find a way to get a divorce and live a peaceful life until she dies. She already realized suicide goes against her. In the end, there is no man that she didn’t choose to use for her purpose except Oscar whom she thought she liked.

    StoryofMinglan November 25, 2023 3:50 pm

I also don’t understand why people are so eager to think her family forced her to marry anyone. They did not. Any novel reader will tell you repeatedly that Ines chose all the men in her life. The manhwa even reveals it when she said she has bad taste in men. She said it back when Carcel was removing the brush tangled in her hair. Even when Ines says she made the choice, readers still want to strip her of that choice and that’s dishonest. Ines will NEVER say she didn’t choose Oscar of her own freewill. She did. Now whether Oscar deceived or groomed her into liking him, that’s a different story.

And that’s exactly what I said. She may have chosen him the first time but then she tried to leave him. And she chose Carcel to escape the imperial marriage. I honestly don’t remember carcels womanising ways from the past life but she chose him as a child. And kept quiet about his lascivious lifestyle because that will help with the divorce. And the child will let her have a strong presence in the nobility. Not denying the first choice. Just that afterwards her family okayed a role in keeping her with the crown prince despite knowing everything.

No. You’re still wrong. When she regressed, she was already engaged. Instead of asking her father for help to break the engagement, she chose to disappear with a man she doesn’t even know and never explained anything to her family. All they knew was that she disappeared with a stranger. Nothing more than that. They didn’t force her to stay engaged. They were still under the impression that she loves Oscar. After all, they can’t read her mind. Everyone in Ortega knew about her love with Oscar. That’s how popular they were. Her family did nothing like force her to choose or force her to stay.

Due to her actions, her family lost justification to fight for her. She was the one who acted first in the wrong so they couldn’t do anything to fight against the imperial family and nobles because they were all considered sinners by Ortegans. Even the commoners were not on the side of Valeztena because of Ines’s scandal which the commoners spread and gossiped about. In order to save her life, her family was given the choice of her life or the stranger’s life. This is why the author says that Ines in this life is like a murderer who cannot forget her guilt for even a moment.

    StoryofMinglan November 25, 2023 4:08 pm

Also, the deal her family made with the imperial family is that she marry an old widower to restore her honor. Ines even reflected on this in the manhwa when she invited Jose Almenara to dinner.

Why do you think the manhwa cut out such important information? I feel like so far even though things look to be better explained in the novel, the manhwa still does an okay job of at least subtly mentioning important information as long as you pay attention and read without bias. So I’m confused why they would cut out the purpose of why she got her flashback.

I’m wondering if maybe they’re just rearranging it and everything you stated will be explained next chapter?

I also tried to give them the benefit of the doubt about cutting out the scenes after Carcel confessed. At first I thought maybe they will add the scenes in this ch but other novel readers analyzed it and thought that her pov in response to his love confession was permanently cut. I counted the novel pages and it’s 9 pages of her thoughts about Cárcel in the CP timeline followed by her tearful breakdown when she remembered his love confession then Carcel coming back into the room to clean her up only to find her tearing up. He was so shocked to see her tears that he immediately began to say sorry and soothe her. In her thoughts, Ines admits she was upset that he left her alone in the room as though he didn’t intend to come back. That’s not true though because he went to get a washcloth to clean her. Most importantly, this pov is the one that shows her reaction to his love confession and it was cut. There is no other scene that shows her reaction to his confession and I don’t think they will show it after she wakes up.

Personally I also like that Ines admitted on her own that she might have misjudged Carcel. For example, she says this:

She briefly scoffed at herself. 'Come to think of it, I didn't know anything about Cárcel Escalante who could've married anyone.' This was why it was dangerous to draw conclusions on what had never happened.

In the above scene she began to question the rumors she believed about him. These thoughts are what triggered her dream of the CP timeline. Then during the dream, she learns an important piece of information that she ponders when she wakes up. So before the dream, we know her doubts and self-reflection. She even admits she shouldn’t have done that (tried to frame Carcel) to Carcel. She said she’s not in any position to sneer at anyone. The info she learns in the dream is surprising to her and essentially makes her trust Carcel and see him in a different light. So the dream gives her the answer to the doubts she had before the dream.

Also, the deal her family made with the imperial family is that she marry an old widower to restore her honor. Ines even reflected on this in the manhwa when she invited Jose Almenara to dinner. StoryofMinglan

The guy being an old widower wasn’t mentioned in the manhwa though I checked. Just that he was a count and that they should kill the baby.
And yes she did chose the prince in the first life and in that life itself her family forced her to stay after with him (after she saw his true colours) knowing everything she was going through. Her mother making her apologise. Her brother asking to make amend. Even the start of the story where when she kills herself in the first life she says it’s because you (the prince) won’t divorce me for fear of being seen as a failure. So she had no support from her family which resulted in her killing herself. When she regressed to 16 years old she thinks how all of the Perez was lost to her after she became the crown princess. Which is probably why she never even tried to involve her family and chose to run away with Emiliano.
And yea she realises she had been naive in both lifetimes.
Honestly through the little snitches we have seen in the flashbacks her mother doesn’t seem all that supportive either. The dad and brother seemed okay but to what extent. Like you said it’s historical setting. The family name is more important that the daughters happiness. That’s exactly what Ines has been thinking in the last chapter.
My perception has been what’s been shown and implied in the manhwa. If you telling me all of this through the novel’s perspective then that’s another thing. I love discussions but please no spoilers!

Yea I will. Initially you only mentioned the cut part so I responded because you were specifically speaking to people like me who think she was forced to stay with the cp after knowing what he truly was like.
Also I only just now realised you responded with 2 messages I missed the second one while reading the long one. I never meant to strip her of her choices. I am more fixated on her family’s lack of support after knowing of her abuse. Her family was obviously powerful enough to help her that’s why the crown prince wanted her. Even in this life Ines rejected the empresses proposal but he still approached her. The rejection in itself shows her family has the standing to demand their marriage be annulled for Ines if they wanted. About the grooming part though I agree with that considering his personality.
I won’t be participating in this thread further though because yea I don’t want spoilers. Nice discussion though.

StoryofMinglan November 25, 2023 6:49 am

Inés began to dream about the CP timeline because before she fell asleep, she began to question if all the rumors she believed about Cárcel were false. She began to think of Cárcel in the CP timeline, viewing him in her memory at various times mostly from afar. Then she remembers his love confession and breaks down crying. Cárcel finds her crying and immediately melts and goes into overprotective husband mode. All of this was cut by the manhwa storyteller.

Inés then develops a fever and falls asleep. Since she was thinking of the CP timeline, she begins to dream of it. She recalls the hell she was living in and the day her brother discovered the truth. The brother and Ines’s conversation was being monitored by the CP guards who were standing outside the room. The purpose of this dream is to reveal to Inés things she missed out on during the CP timeline. Like the way she finally noticed the “hatred” in her brother’s eyes that was aimed at her abusive husband. Then, of course, to discover something new that she didn’t realize before about Cárcel.

Inés’s brother will give her a bullet at some point later and tell her that they can’t live in a world with Oscar. Either she kill him or he’ll kill him. Inés eventually killed herself and her brother kidnapped the deposed Oscar and tortured him on a daily basis by cutting off a limb per day. He cut off his right foot, left foot, left wrist, etc.

Inés knows her brother always loved her. When she woke up from her near-death experience, Cárcel was treating her tenderly and it made her recall her brother. Inés has always loved her brother dearly because he has always loved her and protected her. Manhwa just sucks at showing a lot of things and they also cut a lot of things. You will have to wait until Inés addresses her fault in putting her family in trouble in the first place. This is not like stories where characters can get away with subverting the rules of society and can get away with humiliating the imperial family. This story is written closer to what would happen in history in that time period rather than what would happen in a fantasy. So wait for Inés to address this matter.

I love it so much when Carcel told Ines that she would’ve have given him the crazy lady’s name if he had said he wanted to sleep with the woman sometime in the future. At least now he knows for sure that his wife wants him to sleep with others. What now for Ines and her grand plan?

StoryofMinglan November 3, 2023 1:29 am

All this talk of cheating is a clear example of double standards. When Ines slept with a stranger while engaged and set to marry in 3 months, her defenders say she didn’t cheat or they make the excuse that she didn’t have any choice when she in fact had a choice.

When Carcel slept with others while engaged and didn’t have any romantic or personal relationship with Ines, they say he cheated despite the fact she completely ignored his existence and rejected him repeatedly. Is cheating only cheating when Carcel does it then? The hypocrisy is so clear.

Even Ines calls herself a cheater later in the story when he cheating from the previous timeline is addressed. Apparently Ines knows she cheated but not her defenders. I see nothing wrong with a cheater marrying a cheater. It’s Ines’s opinion that matters. Not people who think they know her.

Please go back and read. Why should Carcel act clingy to someone who clearly didn’t give a crap about him. Carcel decided to drop all expectations and interest in Imes after she kept rejecting him for years. He may call it freedom after his pride was hurt but that’s just his way of figuratively saying “F this shit because he won’t do this clinginess anymore”. You’re also spreading false information. Carcel has standards. He didn’t sleep with “anyone”. Carcel didn’t sleep with virgins or married women. He also only slept with noblewomen. He never slept with anyone in Calztela where he spent the majority of the year. I see people here saying he slept with lots of women but that is false.

Regardless, cheating is cheating. I don’t care what excuses you all conjure up for Ines. I don’t see how sleeping with a complete stranger and then running off with him is a solution and in the end, it wasn’t a solution. It just put her family and herself in deep shit because it added fuel to the fire. Just like Ines suggested that women can divorce and become nuns if it’s their choice, she had that choice as well. She also could have relied on her father if she truly wanted to. And don’t anybody say her father wouldn’t help because the majority of manhwa readers know nothing about her father. He has ruthlessly avenged her in previous timelines.

The author said Ines and Carcel are best for each other and the novel proves it. He's the only one who can really make her happy, they got same hobbies, he the only one she trust too. She didn't even trust that guy you think was her lover. They got nothing they like together except for their baby. He doesn't even fit her personality and lifestyle. Author knows who is best for Ines. They gave Ines someone who can make her love life, love herself, and learn to love.

She could even love herself. She could look into her bottomline from time to time, without hating or loathing herself any longer. Even if it was painful, she could not turn her eyes away. Now she could not run away.

Such a life was a wonderful and good thing. Because she was willing to love herself, Cárcel Escalante’s long name could now be shortened to the short words of her life. My life. My breathing life. My human life. Only that short word was his name, but further from that, it was love. The best always suited him....

...Because he had always loved her life even at the most miserable and insignificant moments of her life, and his eyes had wandered around the world in search of her even at the darkest moment of her sky. You guys don’t know half of it. Inés is not the saint you’re making her out to be. The manhwa cut out a lot of stuff that makes her look bad. Understandably because they want readers to like the FL. However, because they cut out how she truly is, readers have all sorts of misunderstandings about her and her relationships. Ines is a cold, calculating noblewoman. She takes after her parents whom she says are both a little mean. Ines is also not a bossgirl because the author wrote this story closer to reality than other knovels. She strong when she’s strong and weak when she’s weak. You talk about her plans but don’t expect some superwoman. The author wrote her realistically.
