Hmm... How should I put this..
I like Su Won, I've liked him ever since we saw his first POV - I know a lot of people will be mad about that - I think he has his reasons and I didn't want him to be killed off or imprisoned.
HOWEVER, I hate the idea of the dragons getting closer and liking Su Won, and I hate the idea of Haku forgiving Su Won.
I may personally like Su Won, but that's only because I'm not a character in the story. I'm a reader, and I have seen Su Won's POV; something none of the characters in this story are able to do. I'm only able to forgive and like Su Won because he never personally killed my dad/king that I adored and then tried to kill me/girl I love, and he never betrayed the deep rooted trust I had in him.
So yeah, I love Su Won, and I want a redemption for him, but I absolutely HATE the idea of ANY of our protagonists forging him.

    eternalhysteria December 8, 2019 2:56 pm

Don’t quite remember his POV chapter, was there a huge reveal about Su Wons’ motives that I missed?

    kaze-chan December 8, 2019 3:32 pm

not really following either. What POV?

    neonpoop December 9, 2019 4:47 am

Hmmm.. sorry maybe I worded that wrong.
There's no chapter in his POV of the past, I'm more talking about the chapters where he convinces the generals to accept him as king, chapters where the MC gang aren't there and the focus is on Su Won

There is actually (a) chapter/s in his POV. Are you perhaps referring to that scene where Hak said he’d be soo won’s right hand man if soo won becomes king and married yona? Then soo wons monologue goes like, they wouldn’t be by his side when he becomes king. He looked really sad in that chapter.
I’m not sure if it was uploaded here. I first read it at Titania scans but they seemed to have dropped the translations so I continued reading it here.

neonpoop December 8, 2019 7:06 am

I love the art, but the plot is skipping a lot. No hate, again I love this, but I'm really glad I've already read the novel because I feel like I'd be totally lost without it.

    Omegaversemaniac December 8, 2019 3:29 pm

So have you read the novel then? (⊙…⊙ )Because I saw on novelupdates.com it is completely translated and was considering reading it but I was wondering if it is worth the read or not as there is 100+chapters. Σ(っ°Д °;)っ

I enjoy long reads but sometimes when I read them I end up stopping because the plot ends up falling flat around the 30th chapter ( ̄へ ̄) and beyond and I end up wishing I hadn't wasted my time reading it when I could of read something that had more depth to it.

    neonpoop December 9, 2019 4:44 am

The novel is so worth a read! It's honestly one of my favourites; it just flows along so well and the characters connect quickly but really genuinely.
Don't worry about the length, it's broken up into 5 books with book 2 and 4 being about the past (which honestly i skim read bc it was so angsty lmao I'm baby) and book 1 3 and 5 being the present. It has amazing plot twist and really lovable side characters as well. I definitely recommend a read!

All right I will read it then, since you recommended it I already started the first chapter and am LOVING it already!(๑•ㅂ•)و✧ The art is beautiful but like many of the manhuas they do seem to skip a lot of source material which is a shame hopefully they won't downplay many of the main characters relationships and the minor characters too as that would be kind of sad.

Thankfully I am reading the novel as whatever material they skip I can read to my heart's content do you know if it has a live action drama? I know The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivatin had one which did an astounding job despite having to downplay the romance between the two main characters (according to others comments this was due to china's laws of physical contact between characters exct.) and that is another GREAT novel that is one of my favorites. (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ

Anyways if you know if this has a live action drama even if the romance is downplayed I would LOVE to watch it so please let me know if you find out, in the meantime I will go and read the novel, thanks for recommending it to me.ヾ(☆▽☆)

    neonpoop December 9, 2019 5:08 am

There's no live action drama YET. I do know however that they're in the middle of making an anime for this and the trailer is on youtube ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AV12r5Hs7Kg), I don't know when it's coming out but I'm SO KEEN!

Yes there will be anime ((or u call it donghua)on 2020 around Summer-Winter if im not mistaken and seems it'll have 11 episode. Also MDZS will have chibi anime too next year

    Alkmene December 15, 2019 11:54 am

with this art it would be impossible not to skip or it would take a century to finish. We can consider these as illustrations for the novel, at least that's what I'm doing

Before I started reading this I really hated Xue Yang and when everyone talked about loving this trash monster I really couldn't comprehend it. BUT HERE I AM LOVING MY TRASH MONSTER XUE YANG

    Mici Angels December 8, 2019 1:54 am

I hated him almost trough the whole Yi city in the novel than at the very end I fell in love with his character. He's so tragic. He should have been adopted like WWX, he just needed someone to love him TToTT

    neonpoop December 8, 2019 7:03 am

Honestly yeah. Like, I'd hate him if he was just some sadistical murderer, but he's trying to change! I mean... the three of them are just so domestic it's adorable! Gosh, this whole story breaks my heart. None of the characters are truly without redemption, like, under different circumstances, everyone could've been happy.
Oh well, I guess that's just why I turn to fanfiction! Thank you AO3!!

Thank the Gods for fix-it fanfics. They give me life, especially after Yi city. Someone just wrote me a post-canon fix it for a very dear tragic MDZS ship of mine, I almost started crying.
XY changed a lot. He's like a unreliable narrator, for both us and himself. It's hard to see his character growth but it's there. Being with the duo, really made him happy (probably the only years of his life where he felt like that).
Idk how someone could full on hate him. He had such a horrible childhood. A product of nurture as I love to say. I think he could have been a very sweet teen who loves munching on sweets every day. Maybe a little bit chubby too (/TДT)/

    neonpoop December 9, 2019 4:49 am

Omg... Chubby Xue Yang... I'm already in love haha (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ

    Sherlockwhovian December 10, 2019 9:15 pm

I totally know what you mean. I was so conflicted over Xue Yang and whether I felt bad for him or should condemn him for his actions. Boy just didn't have it in his cards in this lifetime to live a happy life. I hated his actions, but I also felt so bad for him especially when you know what this piece of domestic bliss meant for him. He's such a complicated character..

Okay but why did they translate it to 'tearing off sleeve' instead of cut sleeve?
"Tearing off sleeve" is such an awkward mouthful in comparison and everyone else uses the term 'cut sleeve' so it's not even like this phrase was something unheard of before.
"Tearing off sleeve is one of the most tender terms" Like ????????? That whole sentence is just a mouthful lmao
It's such a small thing to complain about but???? Why would they translate it to that?

    Everanon December 3, 2019 1:05 pm

It's because this is literal translation word from word..cut-sleeve is a popular term yet it's not like it is official translation nor is it established in dictionary for that particular chinese word
it can be assumed that the translator may not be familiar with the english speaking BL community

neonpoop November 15, 2019 1:36 am

I know she's going to end up with the stupid brute of a ML, but I really ship her more with the silver haired prince. He actually seems to care for her unlike the Emperor. Like, I know they'll give the ML an excuse like "oh he was just trying to save her by sending her away." but mate, that doesn't cut it! She was badly abused and even had her tongue cut out because of him. I just don't think I could ever forgive that.

neonpoop November 12, 2019 6:42 am

So in chapter 1 her family ties her up and sends her into the burning flames as a sacrifice - they even say shes a sacrifice for her sister, and yet chapter 2/3 when she wakes up the day after the sacrifice she over hears her family say that the only purpose she serves is to be a sacrifice for her sister, and the MC is all like "!!! What?! They only wanted me for a sacrifice!?". It's like.... ? Yeah, no shit, what part of them tying you up and throwing you into a burning fire did you not understand last night?
Like... She had already lamented how badly they treat her, and that shes only there to serve her sister, and shes already been tied up and thrown into a fire, and none of that tipped her off that her family didn't like her. It was only when she heard them say that she's unloved and only purpose in life is to be a sacrifice that she actually freaks out and comprehend that. Like??? How many clues can you miss?? What part of being thrown in the fire did you not understand?? It wasn't until you verbally heard it did you understand that you were used for a sacrifice.
Good story, but that one detail - her being oblivious to the obvious until shes VERBALLY TOLD - that just ticks me off. What didn't she understand? She acted like it was such a shock to be told that she was used for a sacrifice, even when just the night before she was obviously used as a sacrifice!

    Bakahong November 12, 2019 6:48 am

You failed to understand her maturity at her age.
Not only was she abused, she was kept quite closed from public, which made her lack common sense..and several other knowledge. As well as the idea of Sacrifice, or the reasoning of why one would torment their own child.

Surely you, and other readers, might be able to come up with idea of sacrifice once subjected to it.
But that's most likely because we manga readers have already been exposed to many story settings that we can recognize it quickly.

    kuromiko November 12, 2019 6:49 am

Because there's a difference between realizing something and having it confirmed so bluntly. Until it came a straight from the horses mouth. Until than she could deny it a bit. Pretend that her family at least loved her a little bit. Also while she knew she was a sacrifice, she didn't know she was born SOLELY to be a sacrifice.

    anon November 12, 2019 7:19 am

as someone who grew up in an abusive home. it doesn't occur to you that you are unloved. you think that everything is your fault and if you are better finally will they treat you well.

    hakwifey7 November 12, 2019 8:32 am

That is how A CONFIRMATION felt like. In her situation (the abuses) it is pretty normal that such VERBAL CONFIRMATION felt like her final verdict. And yes, she finally decides to cut all ties from that family.

    reigensgf November 12, 2019 12:34 pm

i dont think you understand the mindset of an abused child.

    IceQueen4U November 12, 2019 4:16 pm

I think it can be hard for some people to understand, especially if it's an experience they haven't endured themselves, but there's a large difference between thinking that you're unloved and disliked for perceivably no reason vs having it confirmed by the people themselves that you're only purpose in being born was to be used as a sacrifice for another (you're own sister, no less).
There's even a large difference between thinking you're unloved, and being told you're unloved. At least if you only think it, then you can convince yourself from time to time that it's all in your head. That you're exaggerating the abuse towards you. You convince yourself that you're the issue. You're the one in the wrong. And the abuse isn't "abuse", but "punishment". Something you deserve, even if you don't understand why. You might feel anger, sadness, or any manner of negative emotions towards their treatment of you, but because you think it's somehow your fault, you convince yourself that those feelings are unjustified. You're ungrateful, and rude, a bad person who only further deserves the "punishment".

But, when it's finally confirmed by the people themselves that they simply dislike you because you exist---something you never asked for and have no control over, it becomes more absolute. That you cannot do anything to make them care for you, because you aren't doing anything wrong. You simply exist. For some people, especially over time and with hopefully some therapy, you're feelings suddenly feel valid. You're ALLOWED to be hurt and unhappy, and to feel angry and hateful towards your abusers. What they did was abuse and was wrong---not punishment.

neonpoop November 10, 2019 12:07 pm

Omg, I always felt bad for that poor orphan kid when I read the novel, but it's twice as heartbreaking when you actually SEE him visually and when you've read his back story and now have to re-read what he's been reduced to.
I just want to hold him in my arms and care for him!!! Is this my long forgotten maternal instinct?? Maybe!

    ZurNesh November 12, 2019 5:06 pm

    Ok, tell me about it.

neonpoop November 6, 2019 1:24 am

UGH I hate the sect head.
Like, you know he's lying. You KNOW he's lying, but everyone just seems to accept his word as law.
Like, I bet that dude he killed wasn't actually poisoned, the sect head just made that excuse to justify killing him - and no one even bothered to check if it were true or not.
And then he sentenced this gravely injured disciple to be whipped 50 times, but as soon as he's on the brink of death the sect head gives him enough spiritual energy to survive. This just sounds like he's keeping him alive to torture hum longer but now the disciple that was whipped - and everyone who saw - is thinking that the sect head is so merciful for prolonging this guys life, even when he's the one ordering him to get whipped! It's just such an obvious trap to get them more loyal to him and UGHHH! I hate you, sect head. (╬ ̄皿 ̄)凸

Well said, the sect head is extremely suspicious.
