gotta love athy fans they act indignant even when the character themselves admits they were arong.
She was trying to survive, so her actions were completely valid. She's made up her mind to save her family even if it means her own death, so it makes sense now that she would tell this stuff to Jennette, but her guilt doesn't mean her actions weren't justified. Jennette was being a self-centered brat the entire time and didn't even bother considering that Athy may have had actual reasons, choosing not to trust athy and feeling sorry for herself.
she didn't just assume. she did inquire about it first (doubting what she heard) and then athy closed up to her, which only made jenntte more anxious, she's only human. they both are at fault for the misunderstanding piling up from not being straightforward. they are friends, honesty is essential in any relationship. athy herself admitted most of her "reasons" were more just excuses to shut out jennette, we already know athy is guarded around people, but its still something she needs to work on if she wants to keep the people she cares about close to her. neither one of them are wrong, just flawed.

I loved that the characters were actually masculine and not super effeminate and unrealistic like most yaois are, it just felt really sincere and I loved it!
Why is it so controversial??? It went through so many parts of humanity in such a good and realistic way. People aren't perfect, people make mistakes or act stupidly when they've they've hurt, but they're all trying to be better and find their own happiness.
Also sidenote to the thing about dreadlocks and race– the author did a GREAT job translating that mop of a dog to a human, and dreadlocks have been a part of MANY different cultures for many many years– the Celtics, Vikings, Indians, and more recently than that, Rastafarians. Also...The dog type, a puli, is LITERALLY REFERRED TO AS A RASTAFARIAN DOG BC OF THE DREAD-TYPE HAIR, HELLO? They come in black and white, and this one was a white one. It's not a racist thing at all, learn your history, people.
