Gays have it rough everywhere. China is no exception. YuYang asking his dog what's wrong with him is not uncommon, our culture (and others) enforces self-loathing. The perspective here is very different compared to most Manga's, it's authored by a gay man after all.

Oh, DJun is a gay man? I didn't know. It breaks my heart if YuYang's experiences are what DJun faced with his family too... :(( Thanks for the information.

How did you know that Djun was gay?

DJun has a twitter. Twitter is banned in China so he probably uses a VPN to bypass regulations. But china has a stringent ban on even boy-love novels which is why this is Shonen Ai. The Chinese government basically erases the LGBT's existence from any public forum.

It's nice getting backstory on them both. But I'm still not over how LiHuan was treated in high school. How dare you hurt my precious child! ╭(๑¯д¯๑)╮

Would I be too hopeful to think the mom not only knows, but accepts that he's gay and that it's his own shame that makes him think she doesn't? Regardless, can we bring his tree-husband back into the picture ASAP? (Also, 23 pages?! (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻)

Can I just say, that to me, it seems like Alex does in fact have an attraction to DG and has used "fuck buddies" more as an exception to himself, an excuse to break his normal habit of doing things, which is to treat people as disposable. He's not unaware of DG's feelings, but refuses to deal with his own, in addition to his baggage. That's not an excuse for his behavior, but it's not an unfamiliar trope for a damaged person. The glimmers seen when he's drunk, or not keeping his emotions in check, is what he could be if he weren't such a mess.

I think the author has set this story up to be more traumatic on DG than Alex, who is already traumatized. Except DG will likely display more grit than when Alex went through the same thing. It's not DG's responsibility to clean up after Alex's issues, but he's clearly the kind who will do so anyways.

I've thought it over and I've concluded that Korean Manhwa can become way darker and can spiral further down the rabbit hole than what I think most are used to. It's angst of a greater magnatude. I dabbled in another called "Hogu Hagyeongsu" which is an even greater level of crazy (I can't say I recommend it). I think the better story telling allows a balence of light-heartedness mixed in so it's not always a one-note level of pain and suffering. Regardless I'm still interested in seeing where this ends up, but I'm thinking it's time for a break to see if enough of the story will develop or if it just keeps up this same fervored pitch.

    tmld3 August 27, 2018 3:54 am

I read Hogu Hagyeongsu from start to end and I agree. It messed me up in all honesty. But I definitely don't think BJ Alex will reach or get even close to what the level of angst that Hogu Hagyeongsu did. Or even many of the Manhwa these days do.

Honestly, I think this is the peak of angst when it comes to them getting together. Of course, there's still that sunbae at school that's suspicious of them and is searching for the people that had sex in the student lounge (which are DG and Alex) but I think that'll be down the road and again, way more light hearted then what we've been getting recently ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

I understand that each character has their own baggage, And that the nature of shonen ai tends to feature slow character development. But doesn't it seem like Haru has tested Ren more times than what's necessary? I can't shake this feeling like they they are in a relationship, yet don't actually acknowledge it as such which is also a bit frustrating. that's shonen ai for you I suppose. ╮(─▽─)╭

I think everyone is expecting the girl to be a homewrecker, but I suspect she might actually be a fujoshi (¬з¬)

We'll see, I have my chainsaw at the ready just in case... ╭(๑¯д¯๑)╮

    Hazey Jnr August 23, 2018 5:44 am

Same. I don’t think she’s actually interested in LiHuan, but wants LiHuan and YuYang to get together. Or at least I’m hoping that what she wants

Froschsaber August 17, 2018 7:16 am

I'm going to be pissed if the series ends after they end up together. No angst needed, I want arcs of them being so sugary I wind up with diabetes.

    K21796 August 17, 2018 8:24 am

It's so frustrating when a manga has like 50 chapters of angst and then only one extra chapter to show the cute happy couple after they get together. Hope it doesn't happen this time

    Larry August 17, 2018 9:05 am

Exactly! I hate how this manga has over 40 chapters, but no development between the characters themselves. We’ll probably be in the 70’s before they start dating.

LOL. Yep! but then hopefully we'll get 70 more chapters of mutual love cuteness and bliss to balance it out. *finger crossed*

I’m okay with slow developing relationships but I agree that it sucks when you don’t get to see much of them actually being in a relationship. At least with here u are we get angst but also a lot of them being cute. I feel like it’s worse with manga that’s 50 chapters of just pain and then like a chapter and a half of them being happy.

Very true. It could be worse. I've read some that I had high hopes for, but the rushed ending and "one chapter and a 5 page extra of the happy couple" scenario completely killed it for me. You can't make us sit through chapters and chapters of angst and suspense only to give us a few crumbs of lovey dovey times. It makes all the build up to the happy ending taste kinda bitter in my opinion.

    mitsumi August 22, 2018 6:36 pm

yes! i would just kill myself!! you can't take that cute couple's moment from us !!!!! I AGREE ALSO!
