I see some people think dan will give in soon since he's a pushover, but is he really? at the beginning of their relationship, dan has always spoke his mind whenever he got the chance to (he's a scaredy cat but I mean who wouldn't be after getting beaten up by loan sharks all their life?) he's also a bit self-conscious and doesn't have confidence in his abilities, but he's not a pushover. a people pleaser, yes (again, because of the circumstances he grew up in) but pushover I don't think so. jjk made him so dependent on him that the thought of disobeying his words doesn't even cross dan's mind since his world quite literally revolves around jjk. but towards other people, he doesn't have a problem expressing his opinion even if it's not favored. after rereading so many times I actually believe he's a very kind and cool person, it's just that his financial situation doesn't allow him to express himself fully, since he has to be careful of other people at all times. in recent chapters he's very clearly depressed and perhaps even (as has been implied) suicidal. but I digress, dan is not a pushover me thinks... a very careful and cautious person (rightfully so) but not easy to manipulate or influence. (also a funny detail I noticed, he's very very polite. Yes No Shit Everyone Could Tell but like, did you know he's cursed exactly one time? only once, in this whole series? and that was attaching "goddamn" to the doctor's title who wanted to r word him in chapter 1. after that he literally never cursed. it's interesting because if I were in his shoes I would not stop cursing at every single moving being.)
