All their misunderstandings could've been resolved if the Duke got smacked with some social awareness and tact, and learned to say I Love You to his daughter, instead of ignoring her most of the time and then giving her bursts of affection. Hopefully, he's steadily improving. I have high hopes for him and he's certainly my fav male character here.
This ML better get smacked with character development eventually because his arrogant, pompous ass is single-handedly making me want to drop this. He's so fucking arrogant and entitled. The way he's treating the MC is infuriating tbh. Who tf does he think he is, trying to interfere in a father-daughter relationship, and threaten and demean someone in their own house. Not to mention, his views on love are so childish and immature. He looks to be an adult but carries the emo personality of 'love is a lie'. I haven't raged so hard about a fictional character in ages. What an ass. Someone in the comments please tell me if the ML grows tf up and learns some fucking manners before I feel like whooping his ass for treating the MC that way.
And also, is this dickhead that delusional that he thought murdering that daughter of the Duke, the only person his teacher truly loves would somehow get the two of them join hands and sing Kumbaya around the campfire? And he seems pretty willing to take an innocent life so his own selfish desires can be fulfilled. And he stopped because she was pretty? Kind? Displayed decent behaviour despite being accosted in her own house and ordered around by a spoilt piece of shit? This is who we're supposed to root for? No. Not until he gets some character development that doesn't consist entirely of 'I treat only the woman I love nicely, but am an asshole to everyone else because apparently decency is beyond me and politeness would make me combust'.
Hmph!
So I'm reading the novel and was going to start reading the manhwa to where I am currently. In the Novel he didn't approach her to ruin their parent/daughter relationship. He went to understand why his mentor cared for her as much as he does (under the guise of getting rid of his mentor's weakness because it seemed to me that he didn't even know the reason he approached her in the first place.) He is flawed and a bit arrogant but not without reason and when you're in his pov its easy for me to see and understand his reasoning. He grew up with a tyrant father who wanted him dead and gone, a very hostile place for a child and then was thrown into the battlefield. So of course he despises the thought of "weakness." If you're weak on the battlefield, you die. If there is another weakness, someone can take that and use it against you...to control and manipulate you. This is just the lessons he learned growing up. Its thanks to Juvel that he is learning what love is, what comfort is. He is learning that love and kindness aren't weaknesses but its a slow process because having to unlearn childhood lessons (trauma) is a long difficult process for anyone. He is so far my favorite character in the novel due to his simple yet complex character so I may be a bit based, especially since I love understanding human phycology so dissecting characters like Max is fun to me. I haven't read the manhwa yet so I understand if people don't like him so far, but please be a little patient and give him a chance. ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶
That's good, but honestly, I just want him to become a decent human being who doesn't treat people he deems worthy of his love like trash. That's it. The amount of MLs I've seen, in Shoujo mainly, that are rude to everyone except their love interest are kinda pathetic and really annoying. I didn't know a lack of basic decency was so popular smh. But, I'll soldier on due to all the reassuring replies.
OFC I will bb! I completely understand how his trauma is influencing his character, including his desire to hid any and all weaknesses, I just dislike how he feels entitled to trespassing, assault, insults and even threatening someone by placing a sword at their neck, until they go out of their way to be blatantly nice to him, or really attractive. He lacks basic courtesy. Extenuating circumstances do influence how we treat others, but for me, the ML's character type is very common, predictable type so I suppose I'm just ranting about MLs of Shoujo in general. In short, I just want him to become a decent person, and strong enough to break the cycle of abuse instead of perpetuating it by his harsh actions. He's a cliche, which is fine as long as he's done properly. I'm mainly reserving judgement on him doe, and hope he improves. Thanks for your input!(づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ
(⊙…⊙ ) Sword at the neck!? That wasn't in the novel lol the most harm he did was when he pushed her down when she tried to wake him and she ended up bruised which he felt bad for when he realized. During their time together (at least to the point where I'm at in the novel) he acts more on the tsundere side than an "asshole" side. Yikes I need to read the manhwa Σ(っ°Д °;) I hope they didn't change too much or excluded a lot of the minor details that can really add up to a difference but I wanna finish the novel first (/TДT)/ Thanks for understanding though!
A trend I've noticed in these types of villainess isekai stories is that the male character who initially ignored or disliked the OG Villainess for her evil actions, automatically become evil characters or assholes as soon as the MC comes. OFC, this might not be their intention, but it kinda sends a message that those guys were at fault for rejecting a girl, even doe she was the villainess. Like, those males had all the right to reject whomsoever they wanted, so always making the villains when MC isekais is a bit weird.
I thought the art was pretty mediocre, but the way the ML was drawn in his 1st scene is just ლ(´ڡ`ლ)

The chemistry between them is really good. I hope they remain best friends and don't enter a romantic relationship.
