... this manga was dropped for a reason. It has been licensed in English by SuBLime Manga. It's available as a digital download for $5.99 per volume. Volumes 1-7 and an Extra Booklet is available ($1.99 for the Extra - 17 pages). They accept credit/debit cards and PayPal. As fujoshi/fudanshi we should honor our favorite mangaka by purchasing their works whenever we can. If you have PayPal or a credit/debit card and can afford to buy the download, buy what you can when you can, as a show of gratitude for ALL the awesome free manga we have at our fingertips. Thanks ladies (and gents).
No, I don't work for SuBLime. I'm just a fujoshi who thinks it's important to "do the right thing" when we can and chose to share what I know and think.

I think sites like this...- "read only" no downloading - function like a library. You "borrow" the title to read it but don't own the copy. If you want to read it again, you come back and "borrow" it.
As much as I believe that those who can buy digital or print manga, should buy it, I also know that there are those who can't (financial reasons or no PayPal/Card). Sites like this one provide everyone the opportunity to read great (and lousy LOL) manga. This is how it SHOULD BE. Books of EVERY type should be freely available to those who want to read - like a library. Money should not limit anyone's opportunities to read. This is also why I volunteer for scalation groups. I want to help provide books/manga for those who can't buy them freely, as long as they are not charging for the privilege.

...who actually looks at the cover art for hints of what I'm about to read? There is, what appears to be, a child and an adult on the "cover"...this indicates the distinct possibility of shotacon. If I knew nothing about "Black Butler", I would still recognize this as shotacon. Pay attention. If you choose NOT to pay attention, don't bitch about it later, it's your own fault.
I am not a fan of shotacon, but I am a fan of Black Butler - so this one I can and did enjoy.

Not trying to offend you but there are people who do see the cover and recognize this as shota, don't read it, but still comment about their hatred for shota right? I personally have a neutral feeling toward Black Butler, but am averse to shota, I feel like those ukes have been robbed of their childhood.

No offense taken. I am neutral to shotcon in fiction. There are times when it makes my skin crawl and other times where I can find it appealing. The most important thing to remember, however, is that this is FICTION. No ukes were robbed of anything. They are figments of the mangaka's imagination and therefore cannot be harmed by any circumstance in which they are placed. That said, I understand the revulsion to the idea of a child being placed in a sexual situation with an adult - in real life. I feel this revulsion too. However, I do not feel the need to announce this every time I read a manga containing shotacon. Shotacon and lolicon are common and popular genres and themes in manga. This is common knowledge. If the genre or theme is unappealing, don't read it. If you don't read it, why comment on something of which you have no knowledge? People who comment negatively without having read the manga are little more than "attention whores" in my opinion. My comment here was simply my way of fulfilling their desire for attention, albeit my negative attention.

I do agree that this manga's fiction and it's silly to apply it to real-life,but so are most of the other manga, movies and every other form of fiction. Take Ten Count for example, even though we know it's fiction, we still say "Poor Shirotani" and stuff like that right? In the same way, Ciel, or any other though fictional shota, is still a minor. I have a question, if you know anyone who likes shota, can you tell me what they find so appealing in it? I'd like to know the reason because I think that by knowing it, I can better myself and broaden my thinking and become more accepting.

It's the writers job to get the readers emotionally involved with their characters. It is the readers job to separate the emotional attachment they feel for fictional characters, from what is happening in reality. No matter how much we say "Poor Shirotani." we must realize that nothing bad really happened to him because he doesn't exist. Most, but not all, mangaka skirt child pornography laws by drawing a character to look childlike, but write the character as an adult. Therefore, the "they are minors" argument fails. Ceil may be a "minor", but he is also the leader of a major part of a fantasy kingdom. Why would his being a minor in our universe apply to his universe? This brings us back to the fiction vs. reality argument.
As for those who enjoy shotacon and lolicon as a fetish... I know people who prefer young but legal partners for sex and erotic play, but I don't know anyone, personally, who enjoys the genre of manga.
The information I can offer was gleaned from Psychology courses I took for pre-med in college, in regards to criminal pedophilia. One reason can be that the person does not mentally view themselves as an adult. In essence, when they see themselves in their own mind, they are still children. Therefore, they bond better with people "of their age". Another reason can be a need for control and/or domination, making children; the elderly and mentally/physically handicapped people "easier targets". A third theory is that the fetish basically starts out as maternal/paternal protection and nurturing that evolves into sexual desire due to emotional immaturity in the adult. Remember, these theories apply to RL pedophiles, not necessarily to those who like shota/loli manga or prefer young but legal partners.
To find fans of this genre, ask in the "questions" section of this site's homepage, if there are fans of this genre. Then, privately, ask their reasons and opinions. I recommend private contact so that you don't accidentally start a "flame war". Good Luck.

It's the artist's expression so it's completely up to them what they do with their art. This particular artist is very accomplished no matter what you think of their story.
People don't really have any right to be offended by someone's art. Protest about your dislikes in some other venue. Leave art out of it. (this is not directed at the op)
Ciel is actually an adult character.
In shota, one aspect of the appeal is that it's very cute. Liking cute things is fun. The ages of the characters are not stated most of the time so to me they are like - I don't know... elves, munchkins, you get the picture. I don't see them as kids cuz they aren't kids. They are someone's artistic expression.
This is a late late response to a 2028 post. so ... sorry. LOL I just think this deserves an answer.

This is such an incredible story. I know, in the yaoi/shounen ai genres, we want to ship couples like crazy. In this case, I really want these two to remain great friends. I have many gay, lesbian and transgender friends. I know how important it is to have straight friends that are genuine and truly friends, not because of curiosity; the latest trend or because they think homosexuality is "cool", but because they like you for the person you are inside, regardless of sexual orientation. I think the straight kid wondering about "what is love?"; "do I feel love?"; "have I ever been in love?", are all questions we should each ask ourselves before we decide if someone else's love is "appropriate" or not. This is a great story whose updates I'll be looking forward to. I hope this continues on for a nice complete story. And maybe I do ship the protagonists, a little. (⌒▽⌒)

Yoshinaga already has many great friends, but that is not enough, now I need to see him with Hasegawa as lover! :v

well reading your comment kinda like a slap for me.i don't have lgbt friend, since in my country it's still taboo, and people often use "gay" word as a joke or to tease others (sorry, but it's the truth) well i don't do that,i put myself as an open-minded person (HAHA).but sometimes i used to want to have gay friend, because i think it must be interesting and not so common in my thought.. yeah what a shitty reason and your comment kinda highfive me right in my face.. forgive me for thinking a shitty things like that..sorreeeh (now i think i'm not as open-mided as i thought)

Initiating a friendship always starts with curiosity, so your feelings are not wrong. Wanting to have a friend who is French, because you think you would have lots to talk about and learn from each other, is not wrong...neither is wanting to have friends who are of a different sexual orientation. I mean people who ONLY REMAIN friends so they can have a cool topic to discuss with others, or to make themselves look cool. I met all of my friends because I was curious about them, we stayed friends by sharing mutual respect, admiration and acceptance. Not to mention, we have tons of fun together and hours & hours of interesting discussions.
Here is an example of the types of people I'm referring to in my original post:
I overheard a conversation at a bar once, between two college girls. Girl #1 said, "I love being around gays." Girl #2 said, "Me too, they're so cute." I got pissed because they spoke about human beings like the were shoes or handbags. I spoke up and said, "Those are people you're talking about not shoes. They don't exist solely for you to enjoy their cuteness." These are the types of "friends" no one needs, least of all someone struggling with their identity.
If what I've said helps you find friends and keep them close, whether homosexual or hetero, I will be happy to know that there is a little more tolerance, understanding and respect in the world. Much love and best wishes. P.S. I'm bi, so now you have made one friend you were looking for. (⌒▽⌒)

...shitty delivery. The plot concept has incredible potential, but the writing was unfocused, confusing at times and rushed. The characters seem to have been developed hastily and, although I read yaoi for the sex, in this case, it seemed to get in the characters' way. There was no smooth transition or reason for most of the encounters and only two encounters moved either the plot forward, or character growth. In short, it felt like the mangaka took a great seinen manga and shoe-horned a bunch of sex scenes into it. Neither fit the others story line.
That said, the sex scenes were okay (what was shown) and I enjoyed them, if I ignored the plot. Conversely, if I ignored the sex, the plot was enjoyable. I think the mangaka should have just picked a genre for this story and stuck with it. IMHO

Awesome concept

This was the most hilarious "fan service" manga I've read so far!! Zero plot development - or plot at all - zero conflict, zero lovey-dovey fluff. Just sex, sex, sex for the sake of sex and hilarity. I loved every page and frame. No need to think or get emotionally involved...just sit back and enjoy the sweaty, thrusting ride!! It was like having a "one night" orgy without the guilt or fear of seeing a familiar face the next day. AWESOME!! LOL

...whether it is the mangaka's writing style or plot choices, I'm not sure, but these stories, and others by this mangaka, just do not appeal to me. This is not to say they are bad stories or not worth reading. They just don't "do it" for me. I find the characters to be too similar between stories and lose track of who it is I'm reading about from one story to the next. The conversations are deep one moment and ridiculously shallow the next, making their flow rather convoluted and confusing. The plot concepts are unique and interesting and the "realism" is intense. It is the realism that turns me off, I think. I read yaoi as an escape from reality. Yaoi is my fantasy universe, I prefer that it not be too tainted by harsh reality. I don't think realistic plots and stories are bad, they are just not my cup of tea.
Objectively, other than similar characters and confusing conversations, the stories themselves were interesting and the plots seemed well conceived and developed. Undefined endings gave the stories their sense of realism. Feelings of sadness and melancholy also contributed to the realism. In short, this is not a bad collection if you enjoy this type of story.

...I found this whole manga very confusing. The characters were so similar I was never really sure who I was reading about. The conversations were disjointed and bizarre at times and the plot concept, although unique and interesting in theory, came across as a muddled and confusing mess. Perhaps the story was lost in translation for me...I'm not sure.
...I think, "nah this manga sounds dumb." I end up reading a wonderful and unforgettable story. This manga was so sweet and adorable. I'm really glad I decided to go against my initial thoughts.
I know what you mean. I've had that happen quite a few times, where I hold off on reading something cause it looks bad and then I read it and think Damn.. should have read this sooner! ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
Hai to Diamond stands out to me as my biggest "Why didn't I read this sooner?!" error. I was "turned off" because the summary said it was set in the US. It's not, and was a sexy-hot, action-packed and well written story. I loved it.
This manga would be #2 on that list. I literally "judged this book by it's cover" and regret it. I won't be doing that again. LOL
Ah.. I know that one! I also waited to read that one cause I thought it would be way to stressful. it was def a drama but so good!! and beautiful art! Like buddy system (I think that's the name) glad you mentioned it.
