but like rape and non-consent is really common in the yaoi genre, and even so, this chapter was still really hard for me to read. i don’t know how to explain it, but it felt a lot more real than others? the unbalanced power dynamic, the way seth was reacting the whole time. it was just hard to see

Rape to advance or add substance to the plot and rape for the sake of porn is different after all...
Haha, tbh to me all those "rape"in usual yaoi looks more like rape roleplay sex scenes.
But here we see Seth,a victim actually suffering and not just him but also others and its not potrayed as something romantic and Seth is NOT enjoying it. I really love it when stories potray rape and rapist like how it actually is.. horrifying, painful experience and is Disgusting. Even tho its painful to watch and i wish these scenes aren't long and shown so explicitly.. its necessary i suppose..

yeah that’s what it is, very few times is rape in yaoi treated seriously or as a real plot point. so many times it just obviously comes off as a weird sexualized version of it, or some kind of role play, because like halfway through the person being assaulted will get “into it”. and this obviously isn’t the case here. i think that’s why it’s so easy to be “numb” to rape or non-consent in most yaoi, and it’s more shocking when it’s portrayed realistically like this.

you’re all excusing the past by bringing up the future. i don’t know if that makes sense but basically there are a lot of comments that are kind of brushing what osiris did to seth off because of everything seth has done since. “y’all didn’t blink when he tried to rape horus” “oh but you didn’t care when he killed all those humans” yes we did. do you know why it was difficult to stay mad at seth for the horus situation? because he’s the one who was assaulted in the end. no one actually wanted seth to rape horsy, of course not. and in the end he didn’t, because horus (as a result of sekhmet) flipped the tables. and why did seth kill all those humans? most human women who looked like isis, why? because isis betrayed him.
let me clear this up: THIS IS NOT A JUSTIFICATION.
but i feel like brushing off this flash back because “oH bUt sEtH waS gOnNa dO iT tOo!” kind of missed the entire point that this is a FLASHBACK. everything seth has done since this is BECAUSE of these traumatic events. it’s because osiris raped him. it’s because his wife betrayed him and he found out his son wasn’t his. it’s because his sister isis still cursed him and his wife and everyone involved despite the fact that they were victims, and she still defends osiris.
nothing seth has done since was okay. not the attempted rape, not the killing of thousands of humans, and not the angry dictatorship. but this flashback is telling you WHY this has happened. how this happened. it’s telling you that there is more than one villain in this story, that almost everyone’s hands are stained with sin and violence, and that (aside from horus) there isn’t a clear good guy anymore either.
these are gods. they are selfish, self-important, and most of all right now they’re all hurt by their actions and the consequences of those actions.
so in conclusion (sorry this was long as hell), yes what seth tried to do to horus was wrong, but the least you could do is show some sympathy for the seth from the past who just wanted a family and to make his wife happy, because he didn’t deserve what osiris did to him...but maybe that’s just me ┑( ̄Д ̄)┍
i pretty much caught up to all of this in one go and all i have now are more questions ╥﹏╥
