That sounds like a perfectly good judgement bc it's one thing to mess up and then have to deal with its consequences, but another to try to cover your ass by killong someone who came to help you out

Your facts are more or less right, We use the common law here, we have 2 type of law here FEDERAL and STATE law.
EXAMPLE of FEDERAL law:
* Any case with SSI.
* Anti-discrimination and civil rights against race, gender, sex and disability.
* Copy and Patent law.
* Mass amount of killing related to the country itself.
Federal law also uses different punishment (usually more extreme) then state law.
But in jiho case he attempted to kill 2 civilian, so it will fall under state law.
Now you have to take into account which state you are in.
A lot of southern state still uses the death penalty.
Not every states has the same punishment for the crime.
I live in New York state, so I will use the NY state penal law.
Murder in the first degree is a class A-I felony.

Punishment up to a life sentence with a minimum of between 15 and 40 years.

Since this is his first crime, he could get a good plead bargaining. Plus, it also depends on (mostly) juror (juror are regular everyday U.S civilian) and judge. Are they sympathetic or not etc.
Not all the inmate finish there sentences, they usually get out after doing 1/4 of it with good behavior.

I agree with this as well. Also I dont like it when seems toss other lovers aside or play with others. Personally I can't forgive him easily he intentionally set out to hurt him and he hurt other before. I dont think he deserves shinobu.
I think real character development he has to suffer and wake up and learn from heart break like he made the others do. Not saying he deserves to suffer forever but I think shinobu should move on and he learn to as well.

I just don't like hearing people telling Kou to just die while fangirling/fanboying over couples that do far far worse. They don't realize that in other manga the seme breaks up with someone after having sex with the uke.
