He’s distant and cold but idk his character is kind of hard to hate. He’s so straightforward about his intentions; I don’t think he intends on hurting the princess but he will her as a means to his goals like he told her he would. I don’t think it’s fair to hate him for that reason since they both agreed on it..
I’m also pretty sure he’s not jealous of the bodyguard but threatened by him. Until now Dowun was the closest to the queen but now there’s someone who can do for her what he never could; appeal to her emotions.

I disagree I find his character very easy to hate. it would be even easier if his character had been a female and they were acting this way. many of the characteristics he represents, ambition, manipulation, analytical are traits all frowned upon in woman after all. we put up with it because he's a man

Its just a theory but I think he doesn't want his brother involved in this whole mess. In the chapter he said the brother is impulsive, which means the survival in the castle will be troublesome for him. May be he did treated him bad in his childhood so that he would hate him or stop looking up to him like he used therefore not following his path of life. But, when I see that how he treated the princess then it is not possible that he was considerate of his brother.
But, I am crying for MC. She feels alone. Specially when they all left after the meeting about baek han being a criminal for treason. She felt really lonely sitting on that throne alone.

Is it just me or was the emperor’s change of heart really random? You ignore your wife for ages and now all of a sudden you’re this super affectionate husband? It feels super unnatural

No, he just have the emotional and intellectual capacities of a five years old child. This is also the reason why he can't do anything by himself and everyone around him have to deal with the conflits for him. The book about how the Emperor is perceived by a child might be what he was going to become. A puppet abandoned by everyone. Well, it might be.

?? I mean the novel she transmigrated into. The "current" Selena is the only one the Emperor has ever meet with, so he did not fall in love because she "changed". Instead it was because he was jalous that she was friendly with everyone except him and he got to know her (not only does she have a super good reputation but he do like her personality). The "novel" Selena was going to stick to him to try to make him love her but it never happened.
