dojin was never a good partner, hyesung was always attracted to other omega’s and never interested in alpha’s, he only came to tolerate dohin bc he made it so he had to depend on him. dojin also straight up took advantage of hyesungs biology and vulnerability to get what he wanted. tell me one trait that he likes about hyesung as a person besides being an omega.
Feel free to disagree but no , regardless what kind of asshole or manipulative of a person he is , he's still being gentle with hyesung and never hurt him , never cheated on him either , hyesung is everything for him , what he did was wrong in the past but really , compare to other ml in other bl manhwa , he's one of the green"est" flag of em all.
yeah him having a fixation over hyesung, and not beating him doesn't make him the greenest flag, especially by today's standards. his shit behavior clearly isn't in the past either because he sided with the parent who abandoned him to the abusive parent, so that goes to show how much he "really" actually cares about Hyesung fundamentally besides fulfilling his own domestic fantasies.
there being "worse" out there isn't a convincing arguement.
Oh gosh y'all doing too much , at least he has shown a little bit of humanity by making an amendment with the mother , yes what she did to hyesung was inhumane and really bad but look at her now , she looks so sad and lonely , she's ready to make an amendment and still waiting till these days. Byul still visiting her from time to time shows that's she's changed. She even asked byul how hyesung have been doing after discharged show's that there's a character development , so no. Does that not make him a green flag anymore? And no he's not sided with the person who abandoned his husband , but actually was just pitying her after she was divorced and now was left alone , regardless in the future the author will make an amendment arc given that the mother still making a cameo in byul story , so there goes anything , second chance exist and it's up to the author to decide whether they want hyesung want to forgive her or no
listen, i'm all for giving asshole parents second chances as a person who has an asshole parent who rips their ass off to provide for my family. that doesn't change the fact that such a relationship had to be initiated and handled by Hyesung himself, not Dojin, and has to be very carefully worked for. given the context that dojin knows about the abuse, him deciding to provide for the abusive parent because she's "sad and lonely" (experiencing the consequences of her actions) shows he's putting his OWN wants and needs, HYESUNGS ABUSER'S wants and needs, above HYESUNG'S wants and needs. it shows the complete lack of respect he has for him as a person, which is nothing new. he doesn't get the title of a 'green flag' because he's hot and can be gentle on occasion. simply comparing him to worse people will never change that fact either.
the 'character development' you're talking about is her accepting unearned rewards. the day she abandoned hyesung as a child was the day she decided how far their relationship goes. she doesn't get to just waltz in and have a redemption arc handed to her because dojin pitied her and speaks for her 'so called character development' (aka being sad and lonely, and talking to her grandson who she should not have any contact with without the consent of hyesung).
the implication that there will be an eventual (likely unearned) redemption arc for the mother doesn't change anything, i'm criticizing the actions that currently exist.
also yes, my standards for BL are insanely high, and i will continue to 'do too much' and criticize shit writing. abuse and mediocre relationships being romanticized is outdated and should remain as such. there's also a difference between simply enjoying problematic stories (which i don't have much of an issue with, read what you want) and trying to actually /defend/ the shitty behavior. it's not okay. if you shrug it off because it's fiction then that's you, but me? i'll continue to criticize that and expect better quality. you're free to not interact with me anymore and continue enjoying your story, though.
yeah this has always been my issue with the original story because hyesung got SO much hate as if him being bratty wasn’t valid. he literally did not want any of that shit buy dojin always got away with no criticism. i agree with “read what you want” but there shouldn’t even be an issue with people criticizing the story or ones they also read. i wonder how this one will go
exactly! hyesung got so much unnecessary shit and dyojin got pass after pass. i also love criticizing writing, even stories i love. doesn't always have to mean that i don't respect the work. (in this case though, that's debatable. it's one of the first bl's i read and even then i thought it was overhyped lmfao. though for different reasons admittedly, like the direction it took. there are better out there, but it's entertaining if nothing else.)
i do wonder how they'll handle this too, but given how the author handled hyesung's and dojin's relationship, my expectations are on the floor.
So what if the mother looks sad and lonely? What about the years Hyesung had to be alone without parental support, and struggling? Do you forget how he was having a mental crisis, was raped, assaulted many times, and left behind his own mother from a young age?
I’m sorry but are you trying to justify what the mother has done? Explaining is one thing but trying to make the mother seem like some innocent soul is another. She abandoned her kid for years, almost his whole life. And you expect Hyesung to forgive that woman?
She isn’t a mother. She is a woman that gave birth. Mother is a title a woman deserves it, a mother is someone who doesn’t let go of their child regardless.
And no he has sided with the mother based on him supporting her financially. If that isn’t supporting the mother, I don’t know what it is in your dictionary!
I can have some leniency with Dojin, and a strict firm talk with him and Hyesung deserves to yell at him for hiding that. As for the mother, it’s up to Hyesung, but clearly he does NOT want to reunite with that mother who left him behind, and started a new family.
Thank you! It feels like the other person is trying to justify the grandmother’s disgusting actions.
I’ve responded to that user. I’m shocked that they think about that woman’s sadness and how lonely she looks, but didn’t even mention how many years Hyesung has spent without FUCKING SUPPORT from a young age.
Also, the annoying things they find in hyesung is actually the fruit of what he went through as a child. All he knew then was that as long as he becomes an alpha, everything would be alright and his life could finally start somewhere. but him being an omega, in his eyes, is the reason for all his sufferings. That's why he reacted negatively throughout the manhwa, he doesn't know anything about being an omega, he hates being an omega, and he rejects the instincts of being an omega.
But then, dojin appeared and it was like all the things he hated about himself, his instincts and biology, is suddenly being shoved down his throat to be accepted because that's just the way things are and THEN he got pregnant. Imagine rejecting your omega instincts for a long time and then suddenly expected to have motherly instincts because you're going to have a child, I'm not surprised he had a bad case of post-partum depression, couldn't connect with his child and ran away.
Anyway, I only read Love is an Illusion once, and the only time I reread it is for the side stories. I'd let this marinate for a while and wait for the climax ig or when things blow over( ̄∇ ̄")
regarding the agriculture, did remi use the same methods that pina suggested and that the second prince introduced? (the rotation crop i think) if so why was hers successful, and generally why was the second prince laughed at??
i don’t have enough knowledge in this area to understand it and words blur together
iirc she used past Remi memories and came up with the plan which made her the first person to think of it and then Pina and Crown Prince went and gave the same exact plan that was already used by our Remi acting as if it was a brand new idea when it wasn’t that’s why they got laughed at plus Pina just got finished ragging on Demons and basically calling them evil and barbaric but then gave an idea that demons she insulted are already using which makes her look stupider than she already is. Sorry if my explanation is confusing I may or may not that combined chapters idk
So fertilizer is really important for crop rotation because it does most of what the rest is for, which is putting nutrients back in the soil. She made a crazy magic fertilizer that hella increased production, and in the time the prince was gone it was pretty widely implemented. Which meant that people were producing so many crops they were selling the excess off in bulk. Then the prince rolls up with a version that uses no fertizlier, especially not magic fertilizer and only uses the fallow periods (times where crops are not planted, but livestock feed can be planted and they can be allowed to graze- their waste then functions as a free but much less effective fertilizer). So she gave them like plant steroids and already introduced the system then he comes back and the first thing he does is he tries to show off his plan which is basically just, let animals poop there and nothing else.
i hope to see more loid and anya father-daughter bonding time. there are a few scenes where it’s clear he cares about her, but at the forefront of it all is him thinking of her as a tool
the scene where she cuddled up to him in the first few chapters was cute, but we don’t see the that one on one closeness anymore. when they went on the cruise trip for example, the focus was on yor sort of, and how it was weird she wasn’t there (not that it was a bad arc but i just mean that even though they were together, it didn’t feel like they got all that much closer. anya was focused on yor, and loid just felt like he was humoring anya).
it’s clear that loid still sees anya as a tool for his mission first, and his daughter second (imo). even when he came to her when the hijacking happened, it’s very believable that he did it with his main concern being about the mission, not anya herself. i feel like even loid and yor are starting to break through that wall.
i’m hopeful for the future chapters though!! i rlly want some father daughter moments :’) what do you guys think?
(sorry if this is articulated weirdly, i’m sleepy TT)
I think that's what these side-ish chapters are for: fleshing out the family love. I already invision a Mr and Mrs Smith-style confrontation with Lloyd and Yor but instead of romantic, they stop fighting to decide what happens to Anya if one of them is taken out before they continue. There could still be romantic tension resolution but first most would be their concern over their daughter.
I also think Lloyd's father is either high up in Yor's organization or a third organization that hasn't been introduced yet; Lloyd will recognize him but not the other way around. We still don't know which side Anya and Boyd/Bond's experimentation was under, though it seems Damien's older brother was one of the intended results.
There are so many plot threads hanging out right now that Yor is simply the easiest character to plug in for her to do things without misinterpretation later. She's less complicated because all that's left is openly revealing she's an assassin to the rest of the characters, the biggest shock going to her brother (but he'll eventually say she's magnificent anyway.)
I do enjoy the story plots without Anya but that's how we know we are still getting the main plot because she's the lens we get to view through. She still thinks it's a action packed show experience and not the deadly, dangerous scenario that's hanging over her. All these side stories build up not only her love and attachment but also for the serious tones to drop later, hit harder and truer. It will be great if they give the author the time and space necessary.
I really hope we don't "lose the plot" to money grubbing.
you make very valid points! its true, i think too quick development in relationships may come across as money grubbing (or that’s how i understood that part you wrote), i’ve skipped over the recent war related backstory so i kind of forgot all these loose threads the story already has to work with. (i’m going to give the story a thorough reread though from the beginning dw lol)
i just meant that i do eventually hope we can get some closer development and father daughter moments, bc the way things are now it kind of feels like lloid will never cross that point to maintain his main character traits (imo, that’s just a small paranoia for me and the slow upload pacing makes it feel like it won’t happen). but it can definitely be added down the line after the main things have been tackled. i would prefer it that way too because the development would feel more authentic rather than out of no where.
by the way!!! why do you believe damien’s older brother is the intended result of the experiments? i never connected it!
Anya is so close to being a Daddy's little girl; Lloyd has most of the domestic tasks in the household and even made her a dress based on her mom's without a pattern. Trust me, all we are missing is his realization that this has happened to him. His inner monolog might be "about the mission" but he has his heart already in the matter as far as she's concerned.
As for Damien's older brother being the result of those experiments, I forget which chapter but Damien is pointing out his brother from afar to his friends since he is within view. Anya tries to read his mind and is denied at first. The older brother seems to figure out it is coming from her and let's her "read his thoughts" to "seem normal." As someone on YouTube said in their review of the anime so far, Anya doesn't have a high enough intelligence stat to fully utilize her powers (also hinted why she likes her spy TV show because she can't read anyone's mind to see what's going to happen.) And since we don't know the process yet, it could be something they could implement on someone young enough or even anyone if the process is upheld.
So Anya's experimentation could have been either to discover this process and then impart this for a higher political power. Or the reverse: Damien's brother came first and they screened children to try and recreate it. I'm just putting more stock in the experiment being to give an advantage to Damien's family, which would explain why their mom has been so removed from her older son; she isn't allowed to know. A further vein of this would be putting Damien through this process eventually, though they might not since he is a "spare."
With the discussion about plot pacing, some authors aren't good at it. But sometimes, they have pressure from their publishers. DragonBall and Sailor Moon are great examples of this.
DragonBall followed after Toriyama's success with Dr. Slump and his publisher wanted him to make something else. DragonBall was meant to be short and something he didn't take seriously; when it blew up and DBZ shifted it to a more serious tone, they ran into the problem of the anime reaching the manga's publishing so the show had a bunch of filler episodes to bide time for the manga to produce enough plot to move forward. DragonBall Kai is cutting all that out and refining other plot points that weren't going to pan out (like making Gohan the main character after killing Goku the second time.)
Sailor Moon's mangaka, Takeuchi, was under such grueling schedule during the production of the manga and anime that she wanted it to end; she had the Sailor scouts commit suicide until her publishers told her to revise that to their selfless sacrifice being enough to save their lives and continue the story instead.
SpyxFamily is making enough money right now the publisher doesn't need to push but I don't want it to become like One Piece. Fifteen years ago, the mangaka said the plot was about 70% through the story. You ask him now and that plot estimate has only moved about 5-10%. In fifteen years. Someone in the equation wants a cash grab. I like the found family with a cold war backdrop manga we have now and I will be immensely sad if I have to drop it and wait for news that it's ended. I've had to do that for a lot of comics in general that started off great and either stagnated, were drawn out, or worse, were dropped.
thank you so much for the detailed response!! i rlly appreciate it, everything was really interesting to read about. the reassurance for lloyd’s heart being in it, he just has to notice it helped clarify things for me because you’re absolutely right.
you gave me a lot of cool new perspectives so i’m excited to reread everything with this information in mind!! (⌒▽⌒)
and you’re right, hopefully things with spy x family will pan out smoother. i’m rlly rooting for them!!

Lydia was 16 with a child and rose up to be as accomplished as she could be so she could stand by her husband, and that insecure bitch boy resented her for it. As much as she educated herself, she was essentially an abandoned child pushed to the edge and left to raise another child on her own.
