Is the real tragedy.

rannyrunt January 3, 2021 6:00 am

What she wants: to be the Head of House Monique as the marchioness.
What will make her happy: to fulfill the blood oath as a loyal subject and not repeat the past.

Yep.

    penink January 3, 2021 6:32 am

isn't house monique essentially already sworn allegiance to the emperor?

if she swears loyalty a subject, she's essentially cutting off any possibility of becoming empress and being bound to the prince (romantically speaking i guess?) so it's like officializing that their relationship will be just employer and employee instead of wife and husband (or sum shit like that)

    rannyrunt January 3, 2021 7:07 am

    Correct on the second point.

On the first point, as it stands, house monique is sworn to the previous emperor (Marquess Keiran and Ruve's father) via their blood oath. Hence, politically speaking it is strategically correct for Ruve to accept Tia's blood oath and taking Jieun as Empress, bec he will be able to secure the loyalty of both factions (the aristocratic faction led by the Duke and the founding houses led by the Marquess) as a new emperor - as what he was advised.

However, since he claims he loves Tia, he does not want to accept the blood oath as that will (like your second point) officiate their Lord-vassal (master-servant) relationship and remove her as Empress candidate.

He's not listening to what she had verbally said she wants as she has already said it several times that she wishes to be a Knight and take over house monique as her father's heir because he wants her to be his wife, but not as Empress, only as queen. Basically the same set up as in the previous timeline.

If Tia does take the seat again, however, she'll be subjected to a life of hardship, because she'll be going against Jieun and the aristocratic faction (either as Empress or as Queen) because I doubt Jieun or the Duke will leave her be. She won't have an ounce of peace and will have to give up all autonomy and freedom she earned as heir of House Monique.

So technically, it's still the same Ruve as the previous timeline - selfish, manipulative and self centered.

ah okay, i guess i didn’t understand that part fully. thanks for clearing it up for me! i only picked up where i left off with this webtoon so some things were foggy haha

though i’ll have to disagree with your statement with ruve being the same as he was in the previous timeline. he has repeatedly shown concern and care towards tia - even went so far as to reflect on his feelings and like... admit that he actually likes her. compared to before, whereas he resented her and took it out on her the first time around.

it doesn’t condone the actions he made (the dude straight up abused and killed her) and the deep trauma that was inflicted on tia but i feel like it’s an important to establish that though previous and current ruve may be the same person, they are also not at the same time!

i also think the reason why he’s so insistent on keeping tia by his side is not just bc of his feelings but i feel like its a deliberate ploy of fate or whatever - bc tia is trying to break free of fate, but she’s also being pulled back. its really interesting.

i rlly do wish that she at least considered my boy carsein as a romantic interest : / he’s had so much character growth and his dynamic with her is so refreshing compared to the timid awkward tenseness between ruve and tia

Did he really change that much however? He was 16 years old when he screamed at her because she prepared his favorite food. She was 11 years old then. Then he completly neglected her. It was supposed to be the "turning point" of his prejudice, so why did he not at the very least send a letter apologozing and asking for her well-being? Shame? Shyness? Neither of them seem to be good excuses.

When dealing with the Princesses he enjoyed very much their humiliation and was very proud of himself. When I saw this scene, I couldn't help being reminded of how he used to treat First Tia.

He has less self-control than Allen who, depsite his obsession, respected her agency more. When looking at his actions, which are mostly selfish and self-helping, he has not changed that much. The only thing that is different is that he is not prejudicied toward Tia anymore and want her. The story does not seem to give any clues that he would not have acted horrible toward her for no reason if she had stayed a strong and clever woman.

And all of this is not even covering the fact that his feelings are purely based on his "idea" of her and not the "true" Tia!

    penink January 3, 2021 11:24 am

fair enough o3o though i still stand by my opinion bc from my perspective, ruve did change. his motives are a little unclear still, but it’s very apparent that he does care for tia. regardless of whether he’s being selfish for keeping her by his side or whatever.

can u explain what u mean by ruve’s “idea” of tia and compare it to “true” tia?

That Ruve only saw and like the side of Tia that remember him of her mother and who is super sweet. The one who cry openly, the one who conforted him and made him feel that he could be loved for himself rather than his status. The one who don't hurt his ego. He disliked the other part of her that Carsein compare to a "sword", the one created by the Empress education who is sharp, linked to her social mask and the remnants of First tia. Because of their lack of true interactions and Ruve only seing her being flustered, awkward ans sensible around him, he only get to see the side that attract him. However, it's not who she "is" completly. She did change to get more open and emotional. But a great part of First Tia still remain. She is composed of both. I know that he saw her being "brave" and "clever". But that was actually the "emotional Tia".

He never saw nor accepted the "cruel", "rational" and "politician" side of her that made him dislike her in the first place. He seems to believe now that she is "only" a sweet and delicate girl who was treated unfairly. It's why this situation make it seem that he saw her as his "ideal partner" more because of who he "think" she is that who she "truly" his. An exemple would be how Tia reacted to the princesses. He only saw her letting herself be trampled on and as lady in distress. But what would have happened if she had fought back instead of taking the hits to run away from him? Would his perception of her have changed if she acted like the person she was raised to be? Would he have come to realize that she don't suit his taste that much after all? If she had showed that she was a better administrator than him instead of planning her escape, would he have felt inconfortable? She was only allowed to show her emotional side around him, never the side that made him hate her to the point of destroying her.

    penink January 3, 2021 7:49 pm

so, ur saying that ruve is enamored with the more "emotional" side of tia and that he doesn't rlly like the "rational" side of her?

like, i somewhat understand ur point but the current ruve does not seem that superficial of a character. i should also point out that allendis also did the same thing bc he fell for his own ideal of tia - resulting in a heavy infatuation bordering very unhealthy obsession.

and what do u mean by "she was only allowed to show her emotional side around [ruve]"? she's exhibited much more than that towards him, considering their circumstances. ┑( ̄▽ ̄)┍

Allen spent an enormous amont of time with her. He started to get close to Tia to use her but then gradually started to know her better and better. It was explained (but I don't remember the chapter) that he is aware not only of her cleverness but also of her pain and colder side.

It was not the case with Ruve since they barely interacted together. It's not that he is superficial, just that he is unaware of an enomous amont of things about Tia and her true personality to the point that it is difficult to say that he actually like her and not the idea he has of her. All of their interactions had only too paths: either her being terrified/ running away from him (and since the letter he don't think that it's because she is looking down on him anymore) or her being super emotional. All her other side like her behavior toward Ji-eun or Carsein when they were younger, the resentment, the trauma, her pride are completly or mosty unknown to him. It was the same for Tia in the first timeline, but at least she loved him at his worst. In Ruve case he only to only know her and love her at her best. For the exhibition of much more of her emotional side, she never lashed out at him. She never actually complained. She never showed her pridefull side. She did show her terror and rejected him but in such a way that he actually saw and believed that she was confused and that he actually had a chance.

Sorry, I am horrible at explaining myself. I think looking at the POV of second Ruve at the end of the novel (in the side stories after what happened after the main plot) might help to understand what I am trying to say.

Edit: And comparing it to the POV of Carsein. Between the two, I felt like Carsein understood her and knew more about her than Ruve.

    rannyrunt January 4, 2021 3:01 pm

Def agree with both Carsein and Allen acknowledging Tia's true self than just her ideal self. Ruve only liked her in second time line because she is showing her vulnerable side more. Both Carsein and Allen also acknowledged what she wanted, and is very much willing to support her. All Ruve has done is push her into the Empress seat, and has only ever acted on his desire to be married to her. He never once considered what she wanted, despite her saying it multiple times.

When I said he is still the same, I'm talking about the fact that he doesn't listen to what she wants and only continues to impose what he wants on her.

In my observation, the only difference between First Ruve and second Ruve is his feelings towards Tia. He resented her before, and he likes her now. But he still forces his own wants on her and has never acknowledged what she wants for herself.

What happened to the puppy?
Who was the doll store owner? Was he a monster? Human? Did he die or what?
What happened to the doll that looked like Hwan? Just sold off? That's it?
How did he suddenly grow a hole on his fishtail? It just transcends logic.

Oh, I hope the mermaid survived. He was damn hot.
