it's heartwarming to witness how Mao finally found places she belongs to after feeling so lost for so long, the same as how Hiro was able to get back the place he's been wanting to return to. everyone's way of loving their people is just... beautiful. love for a friend, love for a romantic interest, and love for their family. i cried buckets of tears, mostly when the scenes are about their families, especially Mao's. i guess it hit close to home. i'm genuinely happy they were able to achieve both their goals, with each other's love and encouragement.

i’m being too greedy, i wanted to see them doing “normal” fun stuff together. it could’ve been cute seeing them trying to know each other better knowing how awkward and adorably clueless they are. IXJXBSJSJS dates outside, having fun without their past worries, being happy since they’re now free and not alone anymore. they both have someone to trust in and comfortably let their guards down with. :’)

and that old man is basically living in Yoruma’s mind rent free. LMAO

i was moved seeing the last panels of them living the normal daily life together. my favourite details were Yoruma have his glasses taken off and Saya comfortably tied his hair with his scar exposed— they had the stuff connected to their past insecurities sorted out. it just shows how much they've opened up and how much they truly trust each other now.

i got emotional at the scene where Yoruma was ready to k*ll that mf, when he was ready to become the same as Saya, to be his equal. what made it more special is the fact that he was willing to go against his "no k*lling" principle because he wanted to protect his most important person. damn yes i'm a sucker for "equals," pairs who make up for each other's voids, accepts everything the partner has become due to their past experiences, pushes the other to face conflicts head-on, and encourages each other to become the better version of themselves.

the settings of this reminded me so much of Silver Diamond, it's like a future era after what happened in SD. which makes it more meaningful since the world that Rakan, Chigusa, and their (lovable) company worked so hard for is still thriving at this time. :')

Silver Diamond and Koori no Mamono No Monogatari are two of my top 5s "completed" shounen-ais, and Shuuten Unknown officially joined them! (tho this one is waaaay more subtle than SD and KNMNM lol, and if anyone's curious the other two are Komatta Toki Ni Wa Hoshi Ni Kike and No. 6 + Vassalord that got pushed off to #6. and i said completed since if ongoing ones are included then i have Mo Dao Zu Shi and Heaven Official's Blessing in my top 5. hhhh)

i'm genuinely in love with this mangaka so the fact that they have retired saddens me, but i'll be forever thankful that they brought these mangas to life and i had the opportunity to read them. /screams in happiness/

now, i'm going to reread SD! my #1 shounen-ai. it's been a while.

My top shounen ais also include everything that you've mentioned. Plot-driven with lots of fluffy and funny scenes.

at first, i was really torn between Kinosuke and Yui— which is unusual since i seldom get second lead syndrome.

Yui was... too good. to the point that i thought he was too good to be true? he’s the type of person that would surely be a great part of your life; a person that you’d be very grateful for if he’s beside you. the way he encourages, he supports, he comforts— the way he says the words that Chitose was striving to hear to be able to keep going? damn. there was even a chapter when he almost won me over COMPLETELY. i was amazed since the amount of second leads i ended up rooting for (in shoujo category) are less than 5 (two of them are Daiki Mamura from Hirunaka no Ryuusei and Toma Kikuchi from Ao Haru Ride). it’s undeniable that he’s a huge part of Chitose’s growth, from when they were kids and even now.

however, that feeling vanished little by little— more so on the last few chapters. mainly because of the realization that Chitose and Kinosuke... they are equals. they are the epitome of “perfectly made for each other” phrase. they have their flaws, gets pulled down by it sometimes, but at the end they improve it or make up for it. mostly with the encouragement and support of their partner. they’re making each other grow. and imo, a person who pushes you to be a better version of yourself is someone you should DEFINITELY keep, and they’re exactly that to each other. it was beautiful. IXNSISNSJS i even cried man. it’s like seeing two unique plants growing remarkably right before my eyes. the noticeable positive influence they have for each other— chef’s kiss.

anyway, i’m so happy i read this despite the rating. OXNDJSNSKS i usually end up dropping something when the rate is lower than 9 because i have low expectations and they end up meeting exactly that low expectation lmao. it’s one of those stories that deserves a higher than 9 rating. i keep thinking why it’s lower than that, maybe because the manga is really going into detail about/revolves around art and some are not interested in it? well, their loss ig. personally, i’m invested in different kinds of art which made this more enjoyable. moreover, i prefer stories that has more weight (such as learning new things about stuff i’m not aware of/educated on from reading it) than just romance. the time I spent on this was worth it so i’m contented! will be adding this on my own list of worthy reads in my notes.

P. S. Kinosuke’s mural of Chitose was waaaaaaaaay beyond adjectives. it’s an art that truly makes you feel a lot of emotions at once when you look at it. it made me more emotional knowing the story behind it. with that mural, my admiration and respect for the mangaka/artist/sensei rose up to the heavens!

(WARNING! this comment contains a SPOILER of the manga Hirunaka No Ryuusei/Daytime Shooting Star at the LAST PARAGRAPH.)

i reread this manga since i could not remember why seeing it somehow brings a bad taste in my mouth. i know i liked it but i'm also aware there's something i was not satisfied with when i finished reading this years ago. now that i'm done with it again, i got reminded of the reason why.

i was rooting for Kou not because he deserves Futaba, but because i know how much Futaba loves him and she deserves to get her feelings reciprocated after all that happened. he doesn't deserve Futaba and her love, but my home girl deserves happiness and i know that regardless of how i don't like Kou for her, he is the only one she wants to experience joy with— so i decided to stick with him.

but when Kou chose Narumi not because he's in love with her but because they suffered the same painful experience, then interfered when Futaba was finally moving on and being happy with Kikuchi, that was the last straw.

i immediately got reminded "ah, this was the reason why." i was not satisfied with this manga since she ended up with the undeserving ML and dumped the deserving second lead. still, i continued reading and kept telling myself not to get attached with Futaba x Kikuchi since i'm sure of the end game. all Kikuchi's efforts and emotions, they were all beautiful, but i had read their scenes with a heavy heart being aware of the ending.

(HNR/DSS SPOILER!)
it even came to the point of me hoping that i remembered the ending wrong and this would pull a "Daytime Shooting Star" ending on me. to my repeated disappointment, it did not.
