I watched the drama untamed and fell in love with the characters, found out there was a Anime and comic version, 2 days later all done reading chapters available. Now going to continue the anime.

Thanks I’m definitely going to look it up so I can read/listen to it. Usually a comic converted from a novel is a little different from the original work. I read Bring A Nation’s Husband Home and the comic left out a heap of events compared to the novel but in its defense it was like over 970 chapters I believe. If you haven’t read that one I wouldn’t really recommend it. #1 That one is Shoujo and very frustrating. #2 So much tragedy, but so well written.

the novel is the source material, just letting you know. so no matter where you started to watch the story - anime/live action drama/audio. any changes in the story is only valid to the web novel - first source material.
the live action make out and add a lot of shit that didn't happen in the web novel XD

I think the most accurate on to the novel is the audio drama, but you also miss out some stuff you could only read. The Untamed is the farthest from the canon, but it understands the relationships between the characters very well. Donghua (anime), s1 is accurate with some censorships and s2 is really messy and excluded a lot of stuff. The manhua, is pretty good with being accurate but I think they could have done the art a bit better (compared to Heavens Official Blessing this one pales a lot)
Yikes, I could never read 970 chapters, even this took me a while to finish and it has around 115 chapters. I recommend the other two novels by the same author. They'll also get adaptations like MDZS

not really, in the live-action they mostly childhood friends, that never ever happen in the novel. and I will claim that the charm in it, so I don't really like the live action. and I will say I didn't miss much, I can read childhood friends in other stories. and I really hated how they add so much bullshit to the story until it just a fanfiction I can read online with live actors.
the anime version was really good from the animation, and I will say Yu Ziyuan action scenes were the most badass I seen! she really was awesome. has for S2 itl was good for its own, they make Jin Ling character much more interesting than in the novel, and that was actually very good.
the comic is good, very close to the novel but they still remove Details that you only read in the novel. has for the art, I was okay with the art, it was nice for what it is.
and the novel is only 101 or something chapter's, it's really not that long if you remove the extra so no, you have no excuse not to read it.
if you can watch the "fanfic" version of it that it more then 300 hours, you can read 112 something chapters.

Ummm what are you exactly talking about. I said that the drama is farthest from canon, meaning it's least accurate, not the closest. And it's not just about childhood friendships, it builds relationships in general since the novel is only in WWX's POV. JGY and LXC didn't magical become so close, also NHS with the Jiang Siblings, etc. The fighting in the drama is really cringe-worthy, but they understood most of the characters pretty well. I just disagree with how evil they made JGY and the cliche bad guys' affinity to fire (like in Avatar).
S1 of the donghua was perfect but it still took out Wangxian scenes. S2 was a mess, and they made the flashback scenes rather confusing, they also changed and added some stuff. They rushed it too much, s1 was much more slower paced.
Audio drama does justice to the novel the most, it doesn't censor Wangxian at all and adds interesting extras which I appreciate a lot.
To be exact, correct the original run of the novel without the extras is 113 chapters and with them it's 126. You can't force someone to read it if they aren't into novels, if the op doesn't want to she can go for the manhua, drama, audio drama or donghua.

oh I see, I thought you meant something else 0.0 so I answer. I don't think they "magical become so close" they were close in the novel in their study days anyway, just not has childhood sweethearts like the live-action show it. they didn't "share" everything in their school days cause that part of their character, that part of the charm in the novel that I like. they not "magically" share everything when they were so young. they open up very slowly after they learn from time how to be better.
S1 wasn't perfect, they remove a lot of things, it was very good yeas. but not perfect. and of course, they would remove most of wangxian scenes, it's china. but you can still feel they love each other, despite all of this (not my words, by the way, I heard it from people that watch it on youtube for the first time and never know anything about them before watching the animation series)
S2 they not...that much confusing 0-0 yeas the peace was a little messy but is it really that hard to get? really??? I expect it to be worse - they plan 15 episodes and got only 8 episodes to work with! I actually surprise they did it soo well with what they had. and yeas they did a good job despite everything and the hardship they got with so little screen time. yeas some parts were ruined (I say some parts cause most parts was okay) they still add some bs, but you know what, I was okay with it. cause it brings something else to the table and not been totally ooc like the live-action, which is very hard to do. and I never thought I would like Jing ling like I did in the animation version, they did his character very good.
Audio drama is just voices so they had much more freedom with it and not suffer the censorship bs of china.
again, it's not really forcing if they already love the story and want to know how what the canon is. there is no right or wrong here, the novel is still canon and the source material. it the same when you read a fanfic on something, yeas you have to watch/read the original work no matter if you like or not to really get those characters.

I don't really get what you said in the first paragraph. Are you talking about WWX and LWJ? They weren't sweethearts at all at any point in the drama. Drama just got them on closer terms at the beginning but it still ended the same till WWX got reincarnated. I was actually talking about everyone's relationships, not just Wangxian. It's good to see character building that doesn't involve just the MC.
But s1 had very little flaws as you know. It's hard to point if something is really bad other than the censorship and maybe excluding some cool scenes like the actual death of WC, honorable WZL or YZY's badass maids.
That's still not an excuse to mess the whole thing up. There were tons of people on MAL (my anime list), who often questioned s2 episodes, myself and several others always answered their questions. It might be easier if you read the novel but it was hella confusing for those who didn't. If the directors knew they would cut the episode number, they should have taken less plot to work with.
You don't need to watch/read the original work tho. I've got along with a lot of anime without ever reading the manga because I fond reading them a drag. It was a mix of circumstance that I read this novel

I"m talking about how LWJ started to tell him everything about himself in the live-action in their school life, and yeas they start to talk about who will be their girlfriends etc... and yeas it is kind of a sweethearts couple and ooc if they start to talk about life, their hardship and mostly everything - live-action adding. and yeas I hated it, LWJ won't just start to talk about his past all of sudden even to WWX unless he really can't hold it anymore. that just his character.
has someone that loves S1 animation, I assume you talking about the animation version, I still think even that was too fast at some points. they remove a lot of details that the novel had, to fit the peace of the series. which again fits the animation series, but they still remove a lot of good moments. a good example is the 1-2 episode. they remove almost all the first case WWX solve and jump right to the action. again, it's not that it bad thing it fits the series, but it still not the canon source that happens in the novel. that's why I said it's good, but not perfect.
look, I think from the very start the animation version meant to the fans that already read the novel and just want to see it animated like many books that turn into a movie. it explains a lot about why they choose this direction, and I will argue again if S2 would have got 15 episodes the peace would have been much better and smooth! BUT THEY DIDN'T! you can say it's bad and blame them all you want, but the fact is they still did their best and it wasn't that bad or hard to understand even if I didn't read the novel.
of course, they can't take "less plot" to work with cause this is the plot!! they can't remove half the plot and think people will be happy with it! so they cut down some other things.
has for manga vs anime - of course you could manage without reading the manga cause most of the anime just copy past the manga into an animation that moves (One piece). but let's say you read a fanfiction someone created on a series or a game or a movie or even a book, most of it you can enjoy but you still won't know or get them in canon cause again, it's a work base on something else! they do assume you at least read the source if you reading fanfic about it.
why do you think the animation version and the live-action version keep writing at the start of every episode BASE ON THE NOVEL OF....cause it's not canon! it's not supposed to be taken has one. and yeas you can survive without reading the source if you really don't care at all about this world or the characters.
let's take another good example of this - Castlevania anime. that was base on a long long series of games that was going for years. now would I get the story and characters without playing the games? yeas I would and I did get them. but would I get the full picture of their canon characters and where they come from without the source that was the games? nope. and in this case, I don't care enough about the source, I won't play the games cause I don't care enough about them.
but if we talking about a story we do care to learn more about, and get their cannon more deeply, yeas you have to read the source material that is the novel! yeas people need to read the source material to get it. that just how it is.

I don't feel like LWJ opened up all that much to WWX, unless we are talking about him getting drunk. Since in every adaptations those two went together till the Wens attacked and it's no different in the drama. So far every adaptation also had that moment with LWJ/WWX and A-Yuan. Drama needs to drag things out because it's a live action, it has that comfort since they already bought all the props and costumes, they'll put it to good use. Hence why we are getting more episodes and movies. Easy money. Donghua couldn't keep up that pace and seeing the pace of the manhua, nether that could ether. Maybe a possible video game could milk the source more. But that's a but.
In s1, they made the pace pretty good 15 episodes, and they chose a good tactic to only include flashbacks from various chapters. They cut some stuff sure, but it's literally minor compared to s2.
And how would you know that they gave their best for s2? I don't see it honestly, it's not a fact at all. I like how there's more outside POV, like JGY&LXC and occasional NHS. But it's choppy. Going back and forth in flashbacks at weirder moments than the novel itself doesn't help. Also when I said take less plot I did not mean CUT OFF MORE plot. I meant it to take less chapters, so they WOULD'T cut the plot. What did we get from the JYL/JZX relationship building? Nothing. It was bad. People on MAL agree they did that badly. Wen JZX died it was like some random dude died. No emotional pull there. Animation is still top notch, but that's like a whole different field.
MDZS is very budget heavy, very nice CGI and it has loads of details, I'm 100% it wasn't made just for the fans of MDZS. They wouldn't profit from such a minority, especially since it hasn't been dubbed in other languages yet.
I've honestly never heard of someone reading fanfiction before getting to know the plot of the work. Like never.
You can hold on your own with any complete work, in this case, MDZS, ether novel, drama or audio drama. Ether is fine. Fanfics will fill what's missing once certain plot points repeat. No harm there.

not really, if you actually read the novel you know he didn't open up to him that much at that sorting time in their school days. yeas he didn't mind his teasing and let him have his way but he never really open up to him cause that how he was back then. the moment it change was in the cave! that where he start to change and open up to him, but until that point they didn't share so much like that moment! nope it never happens at least not to WWX knowledge, in the anime version too. did you ever seen him start to talk about life with him before the cave scene?!
how would I know? I know cause people point that out and show they aim to 15 episodes for S2. that was their goal and it was pretty clear to me, now if you don't believe it, it is your choice but I do believe they wanted 15 episodes for S2 cause of the way they build S1. it's not that hard to get, really. you don't have to be a genius to get it, they build S1 that way so they can keep going to another 15 episodes to fill the gape after they build the past. but they end up only having 8 episodes to work with. I guess you can't see when someone is working on a project really hard, and they did work hard on it from the way the animation is in S2 and how good it look. and it still makes sense, yeas a little messy, but I again you try to fit in this much plot into only 8 episodes and what they get is better cause they could have made it worse!. and honestly the peacing reminds me of the novel that had the same kind of peace: flashback - future - flashback - future. so it did remind me more of the novel peace only with less screen time. overall I didn't like how S1 only show the past ALL THE TIME! at some point, I was super tired of it. so I will say it again, I can't say S1 or S2 was perfect, but they are not bad for their own. each of them has its own good points if you know how to look for it and take into consideration the little time they had for working on it.
has for the cuts, you think it's not important but it still part of who WWX is in the novel, and how he does things. so I do see it has important and the animation version cut those out. so yeas you do need to know about this to get his character, you can deny it but it is part of his character.
has for profits, I don't think you get how it works, those "little fans" can be a big difference even if it a small one and I guess you never heard how much famous the author was in china, the small percent is often the difference between been well known and big profit and not be well known. I don't think they ever thought it will go out of china but it did, so they were happy I guess. but I say it again, there is a reason why they always bother to remind you "this is only adaptation to something else" and even write the name. so you will go and read it.
what do you mean? many people go to a movie before reading the book, it's not new. and in this case, many people watched the animation version and from there go to read the source material that is the novel, it the same thing! you can say adoption of something is very good, but it will never be like the source material and it wasn't supposed to be! it only there to make you go read the source.
like many people do anyway if they care enough for the characters and want more of that world, and that how it should be. if you really love something, you go read it's source material. that is a common sense, at least to me.

We first started talking about the closeness of them in the drama not novel. Yes, LWJ opened up in the cave, but he and WWX always lingered together during Cloud Recess days. You must understand that the adaptations are different, as I said before, the drama has the comfort of going into more detail. We saw plenty of relationships build during Cloud Recess in the drama. WWX&NHS&JC, Jiang siblings, JZX&JYL, LXC&JGY, Wen siblings with WWX.... I believe LWJ and WWX only hit off a major point in their relationship during the Wen indoctrination. LWJ still massively ignored WWX during school days, if you don't remember.
And what are you trying to prove with this arguments? It's known that the drama doesn't follow the novel except the major story points. I hope you didn't start watching it expecting a copy past from the novel XD
Hey, if you get cut off 7 out of 15 planned episodes you planned, it's much smarter to actually make the series last longer and just have 4 seasons. No need to fit massive plot into a tiny hole. No mess, done. That would have been the best course of action. They clearly had their scripts ready for 15-ish episodes, but they decided to fit that script into HALF the planned episodes. And it did not turn out great. No matter how 'hard or not you try to make it work. That's a known issue in anime too. Some things are meant to have longer series.
I'm in management, I am pretty sure I know better how profit works. MDZS has the story that stands on its own. Some director saw profit in that story, removed the BL, made the adaptation and commercialized it. Novel also has an censored version of it, so people not into bl could read it. Even MXTX's wants to earn more by making it available to a larger audience. Only the audio drama is made especially for the fans and anyone into BL.
I've never said that. Only that that you don't need the source material to understand things ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
Not common sense to me, just having too much time on your hands

no I didn't expect copy paste from the novel but I also didn't expect it to be so OOC in major characters way of thinking either but well here it is - the live drama did that. good for them I guess. it's one thing to add something new here and there(I have no problem with that) but ruining a character actually is another thing only belongs to fanfictions. so not really, they didn't nail anyone in the story, at least not the live-action one.
has for the cut-off, again we are not the ones that can tell the studio what to do and how to do things. when you have your own animation studio, you can do whatever you want. but I think they plan from the start and will stick to it to only do 3 seasons. at least that how to seem to me, we see in the future if this will change or not. but knowing this, I get why they did it the way they did it.
here is the thing about profit, you need an audience for it first! it does not have to be major and big crowd, but they still need some good number audience to sell it to and to know they WANT this. without it, it's just not going to work! and this is why they hitting so hard they only an adaptation and not hiding it or shame in it (china very against gay people, yeas it's a thing....)
again they didn't just "decided" to only do 8 episodes, they were force too! since you said and I said already, they clearly plan and were ready to do 15 episodes!
well dah when you are forced to do lass episodes from what you plan, of course it will harm your work. you can say that to any auditor that is forced to cut off parts they really love to do for the sake of the one that edits your work. it can't be helped!
" just having too much time on your hands " this is where I"m just give up on you dude, if you don't get that simple advertising. almost everything that base on something is doing that so you go read the original work, it a very common thing. it's not about time or not having time, it's about you loving a work of art OR NOT.

It seems to me that they got the big portion of characters very well, including Yi city , Wen Ning, JYL, JZX, LXC, WC's bitch, WZL (best WZL in my opinion), Lan Juniors, NMJ, etc. Wen Qing is totally off, but they tried to make her the cliche main female for views so I get that, but it's still bad. She and WWX almost got made into a couple, yikes. WWX isn't too far off ether, LWJ always irritated me due to the actor so no comment. They made the character of WC actually better than in the novel, so he isn't just ridding daddies coat. They need to add that drama flavor to plot, annoying as it is, WWX is acting more like a female main lead (lol) and they made JGY more evil to become 'main villain'. So yeah, not everyone is right, but they almost flawlessly did some characters.
I thought they just ordered a certain amount of episodes. Who the f- knows what they actually do in China when producing stuff. I still think they should have taken a less painful method of just airing all of the adaptations outside China, in like Thailand, Taiwan, Japan where you have more freedom (not uncommon for some chines works). In s1, they changed WC's death because it's illegal to have skeletons or something on screen. Like total bs law right there.
And you said it yourself, you need an audience to make profit. Actually, you need earnings that will cover your expanses, since no adaptation comes free. Only after you take out the expanses, you get profit. And the way to make more profit is to broaden the audience which is what drama and donghua did. Donghua became a hit in China, so it definitely covers the expanses, and I guess drama did too since they are milking the series with additional episodes and movies. This is why yaoi anime have shite quality and small budget compared to shounen ai anime, yaoi targets a smaller audience so you can't invest too much into it.
They were forced, but they should have known how much they can swallow. Should have left it for later episodes or just cut the op and ed to half a minute. Go look at the comments on MAL, the complains are pretty clear.
I seriously don't understand you. I've never seen this 'advertising' to read og work. Putting a 'based on the work of___' is not advertising...... It's a statement that the movie/anime/etc is not original work but based/adapted of something else. There's no word saying you should follow up to the source. I love MDZS but it actually had a 400+ chapters of manhua I would probably not read it. Since that that's way too much time, and time is not something everyone has. I had no time to finish SnK and a ton of other anime because of it. So yeah, having too much time of your hands is not a comfort everyone has (and how is that connected to advertising?)

I’m addicted to these characters, I’ve read this on WEBTOON, Tapas and re-read it here.
