I totally get you on wanting to adhere to terms — especially those which hold so much history in dyke culture. I also think it’s important to not negate butchness esp when it is self-identified. So if Bora feels like she’s butch, she’s butch. She might not be as masculine as Cowboy Jen (whom I adore), but her gender expression is very much still in line with butchness. I’d rather have her ID as butch than masc, which just feels like a placeholder for people who are scared of the word butch.
On Mitsuki, she’s still early in her butchness but her dynamic with Mitsuki is very butch/femme. Plus, I think getting confused as a guy (butch rite of passage tbh) gives her the right to claim butchness. Also as a stone butch, I can’t help but cackle at people calling her that.
