She's only one woman. Trust me the amount of times I felt left out because my sister was talking to my mom is a lot. That's because I didn't talk much and i have a very soft voice. although when mom would slightly hear that I said something she would stop and listen. Mildred is doing the best she can on her own, yes she has more than one daughter, but she cant pay attention to all of them at the same time or attend to them all at the same time.

I get what you’re saying but her daughters are obviously noticing the favouritism, and these kind of small things will build up and have huge effects on their confidence, self love and their sisterly relationship as a whole. Can’t you see they are starting to pick up on the bias and are getting hurt by it?
They already had to deal with the judgement, and comparisons of them and Cinderella in high society they don’t need to deal with such things at home.

Yes our lovely mc is trying her best and I won’t deny that, she’s human and can only deal with so much on her own.
She’s also trying to do what’s best for her daughters safety and future knowing the plot of the fairytale, but her daughters have no idea of that, so they only see their mother favouring Cinderella because she’s prettier then them... they have no context of the thoughts behind the mcs actions like we do, so it’s gonna hurt them.

The mc having a lot to deal with doesn’t excuse the potential hurt she is causing her daughters.

Im worried this treatment toward her daughters will eventually escalate and give one of them a superiority complex, throwing the daughters back onto the original plot.

I have two sisters and I know what it feels like to be left out or drown out but I don’t think the danger lies in the mc not giving her biological daughters enough attention, the danger lies in the subtle bias and comparison.

Pushing Cinderella to be the first who is introduced at balls.
Men blatantly favouring Cinderella (not related to the mc but still it influence the daughters)
The bio daughters picking out bits of cloth they find pretty for their costumes only for their mother to say it would look great on their step sister and not them.

These small things will build up and make her daughters feel like they are not enough, their pretty mother wanted a pretty daughter not someone that looks like them

This subtle bias hurts and forces them to compare themselves to their stepsister, and once you fall down that rabbit hole it’s hard to escape that negativity.

I love the mc but she is already going down the road that will hurt her daughters, I’m worried for them.

I don't believe she is picking favorites not neglecting them, Ashley has clearly shown multiple times that she is not prepared to enter the social world, and her ignorance of it will harm her at having a proper life there. If she doesn't learn etiquette she will crumble and not get her ‘fairytale ending.’

Plus Mildred recognizing that her daughters had already experienced ‘dress up’ parties while Ashley never has, she wants to ensure that her if one goes well. When raising children sometimes there is just going to be that child that going to need that little bit of extra attention.

It sucks to see and can be seen as favoritism, but it's honestly not and you can see this clearly when one of her daughters notices that the other was getting jealous and call their mother's attention and how quickly she had responded with a kind and loving response. Not saying that Mildred is a perfect mother, she is a single mother raising a child all alone in a world control by men.

She is under the stress of having to secure their futures while gliding their the social world without being discovered that she is both out of money and in a home completely void of men, which puts them at risk.

So what I'm trying to say is, cut her some slack. She is only human and bound to make mistakes and hurt others without really meaning to, but there is no doubt in my mind that she cares for them all equally. Ash just need a little more help is all.

You said she knows Ashley (that’s Cinderella right? I suck at names lol) has poor etiquette skills and isn’t ready for high society, then why would she have introduced her first at the ball.
Normally during balls daughters are introduced by if they are married, then in age order. By putting her pretty daughter over her oldest is a slap to the face.
However this is a story so we don’t exactly know all the rules and etiquette of this world, so readers fill it in with their own knowledge, so I unknowingly filled the blanks with what I know and felt horrible about what she did to her daughter (but the worlds rules are probably not like that so sorry about that one lol)

I get that, people make mistakes and probably my use of capslock made my statement seem angrier then i actually am, this is literally only the begging of my worry.
If this was a boiling point analogy I would still be pouring the water into the pot.
I see the signs of a future fight/conflict so I like to comment on how it can be avoided. I’m trying to look at things from how her daughters might be seeing these actions, and their reactions to these small events seem to be subtly getting bigger (In my opinion)

And I believe the signs I listed before, plus their reactions, means this just the beginning of a future problem (of course l could just be looking to deep into things lol)

Everything is still minuscule right now, so I can still be swayed for both sides, it might be nothing, even the like and dislike ratio on this comment is split 22/22
And if my worries come into fruition it’s probably a minor plot point, at best.

But there is something I don’t agree with you on, if a human being makes a mistake that hurts you, especially a mother to a child you don’t just tell them to cut them some slack, and get over it. If what our mc is beginning to do hurts them I will always be on the daughters side, having a lot on your plate/ a lot to worry about doesn’t give you a good enough excuse to brush off someone who was hurt by you.
Does the things the mother worries about give context? Yes.
But it doesn’t give anyone the right to brush off the person who was hurt.

Everything is in the mother’s perspective, so of course she is the person we are gonna bond with the most, shes the person we are gonna see struggle, and she is the person the majority of us are gonna cheer for.
We don’t know her daughters troubles, thoughts, feelings, we only see them when one of them seeks out the mother and they have heart to heart

My last things was just saying how since I don’t get her daughters point of views so I work hella hard to look for facial expression, shifts in atmosphere, and so on.

I believe what’s happening will lead into a bigger problem, wethers it will be solved with the daughter to argue with the mother, or their step sister, or even she goes off horse riding to calm down and runs into the prince confiding in him.

I’ve made quite a few predictions in multiple stories based on these small things, as new things pop up my opinions may change but I personally think my thoughts have some merit

And if I’m being completely honest although they all looked rough by the end and got punished one way or another, I still think she should’ve fucked them up a bit more (expect for the last one I couldn’t really tell why she messed him up from what I saw)

I’m pretty sure out of all of them the girl got the worse, and I’m not exactly certain how our mc pulled one over on the three male targets, cause all the important info was in the text and I can only decipher so much by looking at the pictures lol
