I'm not quite sure what to make of this. As an erotic 3p it lacked something, and on a deeper note, if it was to be taken just a shade more seriously, it also lacked something. The mangaka seemed to want to equate emotionally a long and intimate relationship of the childhood friend as being the same as one of fairly recent making. Of course they'd be different. Besides the uke seemed so indiscriminate in his lovelife and friendships, so to seem more a butterfly-like person, and not capable of real deep affection. Someone to be loved rather than a lover themselves.
Facepalm!! "Dress up as a gay person"?? Are they idiots? That is the worst stereotype there is. I'd think that anyone going undercover as someone gay would know better and just dress normally. Sure in certain settings gays dress up, but so does everybody. But not only does it depend on in what manner of gay a person is if they are even likely to wear anything unusual for a man, and many only do so at certain places and times. It equates to a woman showing up for work in a cocktail dress or jogging outfit instead of a suit. Frankly this is just stupid. Too stupid really to be in yaoi.
I'm straight and female (not to mention real), and even before reading yaoi etc. wouldn't have been so stupid to think something like that. So either they've taken no time to do some basic research on "gay" like even meeting a few people who are and getting some knowledge of how to "act gay" like professionals or they're just bigoted idiots. Either way this just seems badly written.
This is based off of a book written by a gay man. As in based of verbatim... the characters have the same names.
That may be very true. In fact I can well imagine that someone gay would think that straight people all think like this, even when their jobs demand better of them. Especially if the author is gay somewhere where there isn't the same cultural tolerance as some other places. Then from the gay perspective what would make the strongest impression of the general public is probably the most bigoted and stupid viewpoints, and it is easy to see if a person encounters those often enough how they may come to think that they are held by everyone straight.
i know u mean well with this comment and all but u said urself that u are in fact straight. being straight i dont rlly think u have the ability to speak over those who are gay over what is offensive or not. im not trying to be rude but as a gay guy, it does kind of get tiring having people speak for us on things they dont know. i think the writing is pretty realistic and yes stereotyping certain acts is unacceptable but there are people who have and still do think this way. im glad u know better than that but in general straight men do have these predjudices. hell, back when i thought i was straight i used to think the same thing. opinions change and so do people. i wouldnt dismiss it as bad writing right away, just give the characters more room to develop u know? and tbh reading ur arguments u seem to be defending straight people than gay people so honestly idk how what to say to u except that i hope u understand my point and try not to talk over us and determine whats offensive to us if u arent gay yourself. thanks
Look, what I'm saying is stereotyping is bad. And sure people do it, and it is wrong whether they're straight or gay, it doesn't matter. So if this story had been just been about a couple of handymen who for some reason thought there was something nefarious going on at a gay bar and had thought they would have to "dress up gay" to find out what it was, I would have been far more ok with it. For 2 reasons; in the context of a gay bar that sort of thing actually makes sense, and second, with the handyman type is where you are more likely to run into the worse sort of stereotypes and they have no professional reason to know better. But stereotyping all straight people together is as bad as stereotyping all gay people together. I thought it bad writing because the author never seemed to take into account that to go undercover you can't be that ignorant about what you're posing as. It would be as if someone went undercover as a handyman but knew nothing about tools and hadn't even gotten some experience from an actual handyman before going on construction site. Stupid and totally unprofessional, which is why I thought it bad writing.
To your other point, you misunderstood something. I don't think I particularly "spoke for gays". What I resented was the implication in the story that despite their professional obligation to know better, the cop characters for no other reason than because they are straight must have this idea. That is stereotyping as well. So if anything I spoke against stereotyping straight people.
i think you're forgetting the most important part; he doesn't have to go undercover and pretend to be a normal gay man; he has to go undercover and pretend to be a gay man that would love to become a gay porn actor and sell his body for money... there's a difference and personally i think he is nailing the porn actor lookXD (never watched porn tho but i can imagine ppl in pornos dressing like that)
He's going undercover as a gay student and part time handyman, and is hoping that he will be recruited by the porn industry there. Not quite the same thing. He might become a gay porn actor later. Besides, we and they have already been shown that the actors there dress normally enough when not acting and going about private business, so why "dress up gay"? It is clearly not necessary to get the job.
yall making a big deal out of it honestly if yall have any negative thoughts regarding something incredibly minor just keep it to yourselves, its like your starting a fight u could have at least said something constructive instead of something blatantly offensive
my point was just that is it really that weird for someone who tries attract the porn industry in order to be recruited by them dresses up in such a stereotypical "porn" getup?
of course the actual porn actors dress up normally in their free time but how is he supposed to attract the porn industry by just pretending to be a normal/an average student who just happens to be gay? how does being gay alone make you a porn actor?
dressing a 'lil bit slutty seems like a realistic choice for someone who hopes to get noticed by the porn industry and doesn't really know how but just happens to get a job near porn industry people (also how should a normal student know how to become part of the porn industry? so this also fits to the student who hopes to be recruited by the porn industry act)
besides i said "he goes undercover as someone who'd love to become a gay porn actor" not as someone who is a gay porn actor, so...
A fight with whom? You, because you don't feel this way? The rest of us are having a discussion, and even if we don't agree, none of us find the fact that we're discussing the subject "offensive". You may consider the point minor, but perhaps we don't. We at least felt it worth discussing why it was even there. I find your comment offensive, because what you're essentially telling ALL of us to do is to shut up because YOU don't think this is something that was at all important, and any discussion on the subject has no constructive merit, so is offensive to you. As if we must have YOUR permission or approval as to what subjects are worthy of debate.
If you had simply stated that you thought we were making a big deal of what you found to be a rather minor point, and left it at that, it would have been fine and a perfectly legitimate point of view.
Perhaps you're right. Though I think it still doesn't feel like they knew much about anything. Didn't they try to ID the people in the videos and find out something about who they were, their background and financial history, before going undercover? I mean at least try to find out beforehand how the company likely recruits it's actors, if you're trying to be recruited. If those other actors aren't there because they are gay, or even wanted to do gay porn, but blackmail or because they got in financial trouble, then trying to be something they don't normally seek out could make you look suspect to the company.
fully agree with that! while i think his outfit fits to the role he was given, this police force seems to be the most disorganized police force ever, either that or it's a total noob who made the important decision regarding this investigation (or both); i mean come on how did they not find out about the stuff that they just figured out by just looking at their porn without/before sending an undercover agent there if all they had to do was just simply take a look at that porn??? it's been bugging me the whole time how they just barged in there with an undercover investigation without having properly investigated the things that they could without sending someone undercover first... did they even start any investigation at all before the undercover investigation? imo they should've gathered much more informations (or at least tried to gather more information) before even thinking about sending someone there undercover... if it'd be just that impossible to gather information about them without sending someone there i'd understand but chapter 5 clearly shows how the police didnt even try
Which should make both of us wonder. If this is fairly obvious to us, and I assume both of us are not in law enforcement in any way, just used a bit of common sense and imagination, shouldn't it be to the writer and editor? That was my problem in a nut shell. I'm not sure if the author was trying to make a point about something and just was more focused on that than the logic of the story itself.
Yooo I just saw this comment on my timeline. I agreee wih u (≧∀≦) some people might think "it's just fictional works/this is just manga/mangaka has her own style" but we as reader need logic of the story. That's important. I know it's just some fiction but at least don't make readers feel like "fooled" by the story. If u know what I mean :"D
I understand your point, but is a common thing doing stereotypes and that doesn't mean these are true. We do it in our life without knowing it. For example: "Being mainly or femenine" are part of two stereotypes practically opposites, but that doesn't mean a girl not being "femenine" or a boy not being "mainly" means they are gay.
Sure this was sexy and erotic, no denying that. And considering it is just meant as erotic fiction I don't want to take it to seriously, even the less pleasant aspects. It is meant as nothing more than a sexual fantasy after all, this kind of manga. Strangely, I don't think it was the rape aspect itself that bothered me (as I have read other mangas of this type and not been equally bothered) but that the "friends" were willfully tricking a guy into repeatedly participating in something they knew he didn't want to be part of. In short they are using him for their own sexual gratification. Usually in this genre rape is due to extreme desire, however questionable that may be in reality. But that wasn't what was happening here. So while I found it sexy on one level, seeing 4 guys together, the rest kind of bothered me.
I thought this (so far?) a lovely story, but it seemed slightly rushed. It brought up certain themes repeatedly only to deal with them in the end in a minor way. Like why Yuki didn't contact Takuma for so long, the reason we're finally given is predictable but not all that satisfying, and shouldn't be for Takuma. Yet Takuma doesn't even react, which given his history and all the fuss he made, just made the whole issue feel rushed in the end.
Poor seme is getting more attention than he's used to handling (which was none) and now is dealing with it rather badly. The question is though, is the "misunderstood friend" so misunderstood and really such a good friend or just using him a replacement for whatever? Or is the seme actually right about him, as we all know just because there are a lot of nasty rumors going round about somebody doesn't make them true. Once that sort of rumor thing starts it often has a life of it's own.
Sometimes you can have just too much of something. In this case butler themed stories. One butler and master getting together, sure lots of fun. But it not only does it beggar belief if there's going to be several cases of master x butler within one family or group, but all the stories become sort of blurred into one big too much after the first. I thought Shion's story would have been better if it HADN'T been a butler but some other guy, maybe just an ordinary clerk he met. At least then the romance wouldn't have gotten lost for me in a crowd of butlers.
That's true but this author goes with a specific pattern or theme in every "Game" series of theirs. For example in Oujisama Game, the stories revolve around the romances of each Prince; Ousama Game by a King and King candidates, princes; Kaizoku Game by Pirates. Be thankful this series only features 2 brothers.
This seem to lead really nowhere. Nobody with the possible exception of Sebastian seem to change much, and even Sebastian is still masking his change. I mean the dad is still the same SOB, and instead striking out independently (like the story seemed to be leading up to) they're tamely back home. Why? Now they have to hide their relationship, and be master and servant once more. I just don't get the point. I suppose it is due to the mangaka's inherent instinct for social and parental conformity.
IDK- all I could think was this seemed more about a weak uke than sexy. Not only is the uke a people pleaser who will say or do whatever to keep everybody happy, but from the story one gathers that he is also blind to any sign of uncomfortable facts. I'm pretty sure those guys he was going out with all gave signs that they weren't all that committed to the relationship, but it was much more comfortable for the uke to believe otherwise and remain blind. I really don't see much cute or fluffy about this story. Humorous, yes, but not without some dark undercurrents.
I thought the manga really good and it certainly kept you reading till the end. But there was a few things left unresolved, like Batal at the end. And while the story itself kept you hooked, the romance seemed less interesting. TBH I couldn't really imagine her with anyone romantically, in any way that was more involved than a kiss and innocently saying "I love you" as she has this permanent untouchable aura to her. Nor were any of the male leads the kind to get past that, or even that exciting as romantic leads on their own. I'm not saying that I didn't like the characters, just as romantic characters they were a bit lacking. So if you don't read this as a romance primarily, but rather as a fantasy with a bit more romantic theme to it than normal, perhaps in the end you might end up more satisfied.

I have sort of mixed feelings about the new couple. Up until Kuro came as himself I thought they were great, then I kind of changed my mind. Hikaru was all respectful and prayed at the temple but when an actual god shows up at his door this is how he acts? I mean even to another person it was kind of presumptuous to tell them that from now on they're going to be his stand in family, when that person only came to deliver some food as requested. Imagine if that happened to you.
LOL Please read it again! shiro granted hikaru's wish to have a family & ohagi dog and thats both kuro, it just that kuro doesnt have an idea cause shiro didnt tell him all shiro said is to deliver food but inside the box is actually kuro stuff. http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/gods_x_myself_x_brides/uu/tr_chapter-4/pg-21/
I don't really care if that was the way it was, Hikaru was still telling Kuro, who clearly hadn't come there for that purpose, to do something that Kuro did not want to agree to. How cute!!! (IRONY) If Hikaru had said for a single night, ok I'd go along with it, but you're saying its fine cause Shiro set it all up. So either Shiro is a jerk, setting up his friend like that, and Hikaru is either oblivious or a jerk as well for being willing to take advantage of someone who didn't know why he really was sent to their door.
Me and Kuro would be PISSED if our sibling set us up like that.
After having sex a few times, I think I could over it though.

lol Manga and anime seem to do this a lot, someone is a god or a person has powers and nobody cares and says anything XD
They don't have the emotion to be surprised about that it seems. There is this anime where the main character has a talking motorcycle and nobody is shocked and says nothing so manga and anime do that for some reason I have no idea ( ̄∇ ̄")
tsk calling hikaru's jerk! the kid is pretty lonely & hikaru's said just for a while you know. both of them doesnt know its set-up, kuro also didn't explain that it was all set-up so i dont get why did you said he was taking advantage of kuro when all hikaru's thought is he was there to become of his family.
I didn't see it that way because Kuro explicitly says that he is here to grant Hikaru's wish. They just don't get that they each speak of a different wish. So the misunderstanding is ... well... understandable.
Being lonely does not justify being insensitive towards others. Nor showing them common courtesy and consideration. And whether or not either of them realize what is going on, or thought what was going on, Kuro did specifically say he had come to deliver the food Hikaru had wished for. That is why I said Hikaru might be oblivious. Not hearing that qualifier. Or choosing to ignore the import of it. And Kuro's subsequent reactions. That he also said he wanted the a god's dog for his pet, and told instead of asked a god that he was now for the foreseeable future his replacement family, just seems downright rude and presumptuous to me even if that was his wish. Hikaru didn't even ask Kuro first anything about how, for how long or in what manner this family wish might be granted. It would be something akin to being invited over to someone's house for the first time for a meal, and instead of politely taking your cue from them when you get there walking into the kitchen and making it yourself- they invited you for a meal didn't they? What various replies have said, that it was alright for Hikaru to behave this way, because he wished for it. That's saying if you think a god shows up at your door in response to your wish its ok to ignore how the god might feel and make demands of them. I get that they of course will end up all nice and happy together, but at the moment I just have an issue with that kind behavior. And neither loneliness nor wishes can justify it. Nor do I like that it was made to seem cute.
