The artist's style improved so much over the years. You can tell how hard they've worked when looking back at the start of 'Miss Not-So Sidekick'
I dropped this a while ago and just now bothered with the most recent chapters and I at least gotta give compliment the author for MC's names.
Estelle, star - Lucifella, aka Lucifer, the one who fell from the heavens which symbolizes her character arc in a nutshell. At least I hope that was the thought behind that otherwise there's really nothing left for me to really like about her.
Let me put the puzzle pieces together here.
I'll call this a spoiler bc I'm that confident.
The temple. They've been turning specific people, whose linage/power as beast-people is strong, into devine beasts for profit. "Unimportant" children like that lost sister of ogFL *winkwinkwink*, for example. *insert aggressive gesturing here* They're the source of what feels like a huge conspiracy rn, it's not only about the kids here. They're after the throne.
ML, aka og villain, drank the puppet potion in the OG timeline. Then he also "infected" og FL with the puppet potion. He obviously never did that out of love/obsession, he was following orders... from who? Probably the temple or whatever entity works with the temple. Why would "they" need ogFL? THE throne, they want either power or smth else
So, the whole og novel is basically just the temple quietly conspiring their way into the royal palace/bloodline. Either for power or because they want something more specific.
First they use og-Villainess. They count on her to become crown princess and support her by doing the whole spiel with the uncle. But ogFL shows up and takes her place. Oh no! What do we do? OH, I know. Use that one high-ranking puppet as a pawn to get close to her, if needed by force, and make her submit to us too. Boom, the crown princess becomes a pawn and they gain access to the crown prince and more.
Also this potent magic power that ogFL has, I think it's that same beast-people special sauce. The temple simply couldn't yoink her bc she was the first child. For some reason only beast-people/"sacred"beasts can sense that type of energy (and seems pretty useless besides for shifting I assume?). It's capable of calming down regular mages, which is either all natural or artificially made to have that effect by the temple for profit. Those potions must've been made from beast people too :(
I'm heavily assuming that the temple seeks to completely legalize their """"practices"""" through manipulating the crown. Either that, or they're working WITH them or one imperial individual in particular that seeks the throne.
*exhales*
God, the manhwa has already won me over and it has barely been 20 chapters. I start reving like an engine when it comes to that type of shit. (giving all my blessings so this shit doesn't turn into another baby lady)
What was the Emperor thinking when he let her into the palace? You can't tell me he doesn't have ANY clue about the Empress' bullshitery.
Making him believe Glorym is his biological daughter is so useless imo. Like just off him instead of making some weak ass lie up last minute just so he can look "more" tragic. As if all the bs he did up until now wasn't enough reason to make him swan dive off the balcony. It's just confusing to the audience and doesn't add anything.
Also, it's so obvious they let AI edit this bruh

Listen I'm but a sentient coach potato but you can't tell me they're that shocked from her dance skills. It's not like her guy is dancing at 1.5x speed or something. "OH NO! We thought the country bumpkin would be rolling on the carpet from how violently graceful the king's moves are, but look at them dancing like normal people! We were so wrong!"
Sometimes anime exhausts me.
Gotta say, I appreciate these types of shoujo stories that treat the main couple's relationship like an actual relationship. Like they blush over each other and don't really confess, keep secrets from each other - a lot of cliches but their relationship isn't limited to just that. They still make kids (effectively so), they vibe, they make progress. They don't get stuck in shoujo uwu love purgatory. If you know you know.
Same goes for the whole family situation. Noella is a flaming bitch, Kayden a murderous sociopath, and the dad a strict, profit-oriented, as well as negligent parent, but they still have some redeeming qualities. Mainly that they still trust if not love each other on sometimes obscure spectrums, which is enough for family. Objectively speaking they're horrible people but if you're part of that family you learn to accept them regardless of their flaws (with limitations), and amen to FL for mastering that (=her siblings).
I think this is why I felt so entertained by the story. If you squint Noella, Kayden, FL, they're all the usual token shoujo villain templates, but their respective traits are turned up to 100 and made fun of, but at the same time not taken too lightly either.
Like some other comment said: The Adams family type shit.
you horny little fujoshis are really in here acting like total monkys, thirsting to see some fictional anime men fuck.
AND ALL I CAN SAY TO THAT IS SAME.
The way I looked at the grandpa and shady kitchen boy, and asap concluded they're relatives - heck, he calls him grandpa himself doesn't he?
Imagine my confusion when FL is all about snooping into his business only to find that out and actually is surprised. Mf I thought you were onto something.
Nah dude I hate the way the characters are being so... forced to act a certain way.
I vibe with the plottwists, sure ok so the prince had valid reasons to kill MC (who would've thought) and all that BUT, BIG BOOTY BUT.
Why doesn't she just fuck off?
"Oh you look displeased about your new job Liesel"
"No it's alright" - Pathetic, tell them you don't want it. Girlie doesn't even try to get out of her situation.
If ML truly does love her he'll simply follow her there too, boom problem solved, happy ending.
Also, I don't understand why they don't communicate either. Like by now (ch.36) you've seen enough from each other to KNOW. OPEN THE FUCK UP AND KISS.
Even if ML is clueless, FL should just be like "I KNOW, I REMEMBER, WHAT'S OUR PLAN?" asap. Also, homeboy is so one-note. He's all sad boy yearning for FL but does nothing productive otherwise. I really hope to see more from him, specifically him actually thinking about his fucked up situation and what his goals are.
If he just wants to be with FL in whatever state then congrats, just marry her and deal with the jealous hoes.
This artificial drama about their status and how "oh no the hoes are gonna come for FL if they find out" is SO pathetic too. Like you guys already KNOW who the main trouble makers are, fucking focus up and stop wasting time.
To add something positive: I like that the token two-faced evil saintess actually gets some character depth. Obviously she was being treated lesser than by her parents because she was the useless daughter in a power hungry household.
She's a menace but I feel like it's Gideon they better be careful around. Idk whether its funny, agonizing or just stupid but damn the guy really did all that so he'd get to be his crush's number 1. Talk about obsession.
Also also, why do I feel like he's gonna send ML to the battlefield?
Why is he trying so hard to mess with him? If he just left FL and ML alone he'd be getting away with it all. FL would be working away from the capital, ML would eventually follow her while he'd get his own happily ever after with the saintess without anyone snooping into his grand plan.
Now that I'm talking about the saintess... I hate how ML won't just be like "shut up ugly hoe" when she's being all omnious in that under-the-tree-with-eepy-FL scene.
He knows she's crazy about "Gideon", so, hurt her where it hurts the most :)
the author looked at all the otome cliches and just said no with this one
I've seen all these things done before so this just feels mid imho. It's the same uncomplicated cliches.
Not even ML with his high carat face makes it good for me. He's pretty much the only thing the author is trying to put some kind of twist on but that ended up just being a mix of stereotypes too.
There's nothing to chew on, I already vaguely know how and where this is gonna end up at. Nothing wrong with that but it's overall just ok. Not good, but ok.

After dying in a car accident, I possessed the villainess 'Daphne' in an R-rated dark romance novel....
- Author:
- Genres: Webtoons / Josei / Shoujo / Fantasy / Historical / Romance / Royal family / Royalty Webtoons Webtoons Fantasy Historical Romance Royal family Royalty
33/ it's aight. Nothing to write home about atm.
FL possesses the body of a villainess and, just like the title says, gets the support of ML.
Typical rescue mission shit for FL's rep, also the whole stick with opening a business, it's been done so much I feel dead tired of it. The handsome people are the good guys, or at least have some substance to them, while all the cartoonishly ugly guys and gals are one-dimensionally evil.
The usual cliches executed in no particularly outstanding way to me, not even ML's SSR face can make up for my indifference.
I fine read on its own, but if you know the genre it's really mid.
Am I that high or has the title lost the -te somewhere along the way
I'm honestly not mad at her, just sliiiightly annoyed. She gave out his phone number under a dumb pretense and that's it, very childish and pointless, a very ok-let's-let-this-child-off situation.
That last "I can't support you"-line is so pathetic though. Appreciate the warning but who asked you for your support anyway?
