I don't think they're talking about the first an last pages but the colored ones. In other mangas there have been big discussions with this group where they have been very rude upon critics from fans.
When I see the colored pages I also think 'oh it's them again'

But we're not paying for this. The scans are free. This is their hobby. Why should they be polite to "fans" who criticize their work even though they don't contribute anything to the production of the scans? It would be understandable if the complaints here were about the actual translations (I've read some scans that looked like they used Google translator) or the quality, but they're about trifling stuff, like color pages and redrawn dicks. And while the OP is correct--if you don't like the way a scan group present its work, don't read it--why deny yourself good stories?

Anyway, I'm off to read more free stuff.

The way you're talking makes me think you're one of the elements of this group because they all use the same argument and 'sound' exactly the same.
Everyone that comes here knows that this is free, that this is illegal, that other people make time to translate and correct pages and yes, we are grateful.
What we - at least I - don't appreciate is the way this group has responded to their 'fans', we also comment - good or bad - on other groups translations and I have never read discussions and arguments like with this group.
I personally don't like the colored pages. They are not part of the original manga, they cut the flow of the story. I have suggested to put them in the end like some kind of bonus pages...
And the argument that you/they all make back is 'if you don't like it don't read it, no one is making you read it' - obviously - I like the manga, and I'll read the manga, but I'd much more rather read the original, not the freaking colored pages that no one asked for, and
the 2nd argument: 'we work so hard and you don't appreciate this free manga that we gave you' like some kind of god that I should venerate.

I've seen the discussions too, I don't think the group was rude to "critics." They just called out readers that called things "shit" and some anonymous person who I think is above started calling people "retards" and "autistic" because they said they liked the coloured pages. So tell both sides of the story, not just what you want people to see.

Lol, no. I'm not part of any scan group. I wish I knew Japanese, but I took Spanish in school--and that's mostly gone now. And I'm not saying that if you don't like it, don't read it. I was just restating what the OP said. My point is that it's free, so just enjoy it for what it is: someone's labor of love made available to the rest of us without cost.

I dislike the way they do their scans with your coloring (subpar and very randomly) and the way they act and I wish I could just avoid everything from them. That's personal preference.

It's bad and random, you're just using manga as a coloring book for whatever page you feel like coloring, you talk about standards and quality but there's not even a sequence nor order is just random (mediocre) coloring.

As a 3rd party: I personally thought it looked great. I liked the colored pages as they put emphasis on the scenes. I'd like to point out that what you just did isn't critique, it was harassment, you didn't give any advice and you just said it looks bad. Not sure about any of the past, i'm SPECIFICALLY commenting on what you wrote here. Also, i've argued with plenty of translators, so this is my honest opinion, it's not that "mentality" that you're using to dismiss other peoples' opinions. Honestly this is second part of the whole harassment I've been gone through (cause if you wanna use that word the attacks have gone my way more) by the scan group and whoever wants to suck their imaginary dicks.

I gave a very vague comment at first and they all just came at me, again, I'm sorry they got super triggered cause they obs can see their coloring isn't that good and they're sensitive about it.

I'm giving as much critique on it as I can... should I link tutorials on how to color? or why burn and soft shadows are not good techniques?

Fan additions is a longtime part of admiring artists. Cosplay, fan fiction, fan art. Coloring the pages would generally be considered a bonus or a fan extension activity. If they weren't fans, they wouldn't be scanlating it to begin with, really, dontcha think?

You cannot say "objectively wrong," since there is so much that is subjective about art. Some people love Jane Austen and some think she's boring. Some people love the Fauve movement NOW, but many artists thought it was shit when it came out.

When people say they think it's good or they like it, it's subjective, it's not an academic exercise. It's a fan reaction. Since this is a fansite, not an academic discussion of art site, the opinions on whether they like it or not, think it's good or not, are fine in that framework.

And one doesn't have to toss ad hominems to have a discussion. One doesn't have to use metaphors that are insulting to make a point. "Sucking dick" is an insult and intended to demean and that says quite a bit about YOU.

Gratitude doesn't "color" my opinion. Even if I hated all those scanlators, I still find the colored pages pleasant. I'd be equally fine if they were NOT there. No big thing either way.

They asked for critiques on their art, at first I just said I didn't like it cause it disrupted the flow of the story, which it does, I said it wasn't that good to spam all over the manga, again, true (whether you like it or not) . The admin of the group asked for specific criticism, which I then gave.

Super duper selfish! I guess he knows that the bottom blindly loves him enough to let him get away with such things. I want to one day read a story where the bottom just rebels if the top is so selfish. At least try it, if you can't get into it fine, but at least try.

Though to be honest I think my opinion is also colored by reality. It takes a lot of prepwork to do what the bottom does cleanly,safely, and without pain. A whole lot more than most Yaoi writers address.
