i haven’t read the novel myself yet, but i remember seeing a spoiler that this esdra guy is such a hypocrite. when adele was revealed to be a commoner, he distanced himself from her and judged her harshly, like calling her a fraud or a social climber or something like that (i might be wrong tho, i don’t really remember the details)
i mean, the signs were already there. in the early chapters, when he first met adele and didn’t know her status yet, he was already pretty harsh toward her ┑(￣Д ￣)┍

What did it change? That is why Esdra sounds like a good guy, even in the previous chapter he tried to deny the fact that she might have been disguised as a man. now that I think might be because he was in denial, but if you do not have the context looks like a guy who tries to help her
i honestly keep wondering where his money even comes from. how can he afford to spend so carelessly? even in the novel, there’s no clear information, either explicit or implied, about his source of income ┑(￣Д ￣)┍
