He already gave everything up for the MCs sake, risking his life multiple times. plus, he's truly a good natured person at heart who cares for his people which is rare as a lot of rapist MLs in other manhwas are just selfish jerk.
Chen, despite what he's done, he's still not better for the MC. He can give his love to MC but not his loyalty or life. He's ready to do everything for the Ming Emperor, even killing the MC (Chen quite literally said that)
