I read some chapters and spoilers about the story The Viridescent Crown AND it became very clear to me that QUEEN BITCH MELISSA is one of the very few Isekai female protagonists who made the best decisions for herself + staying consequential!
Because everytime a transmigrated FL decides to get on the good side of the (usually dark haired) TSUNDERE ML with the priveledge of superior power, she becomes automatically everyone's target because of her personal connection with the larger than life infamous ML...
FL Ran in The Viridescent Crown:
1. Almost raped by cousin (Because she supports ML and for him becomes acting Head)
2. Almost raped by crown prince (B he is trash and she in a great position due to ML)
3. Assasination attempt (Because she is close to ML + his supporter)
4. Kidnapped by crown princess (Jealousy towards FL and she wants ML)
5. A beast caught her and dropped her from above in a snowy weather
6. Almost blinded after what happen with the beast
7. Dragon/darkness arc, where ivria possessing her body, and the body somewhat can't handle it
From 5-7 you bet ML is the indirect cause...
So no matter how sad or tragic the past of the ML is, that is nothing compared to the suffering and misey of being a FL!!!

I don't think it was unfair to compare Melissa to Ran because Melissa's position is not much better than Ran. Her half brother Jake has more rights/priveledges, her father is an incompetent conservative bafoon and her political position/reputation is already too bad.
Just like Ran she was quite powerless until Melissa really use everything underhanded she can to survive/protect herself by becoming more evilish independent/emancipated.

Then there is Daisy - How to Become the Duke's Fiancée. Her position is lower than Ran, she is not from the modern world and she comes from a very abusive enviroment. But she displays from my perspective more inner strenght, intelligence and assertiveness than Ran. Even though she relies on the typical dark haired brooding ML by boldly making a beneficial deal with him I can't help to admire her competence and really strong will to thrive that completely overshadows her constant fears.

But there are still things/interpretations I have to disagree with... I won't bring up all the things I ll disagree with you.
The way I see it Daisy still suffers under PTSD but she has this inner (female) rage and self-enlightment that keeps her going and become more fearless, calm and open minded... I guess we see Daisy's behavior both differently.
Ran can't do this or that due to her unstable position or else she will face the consequences... But even when she holds back, behave, keeps her heads down and make the best within her limited options, she still gets attacked, assaulted, (almost) raped and targeted. So no matter what she does she always will be the victim.
This is how the author portrays it.
The fact that Ran thinks she has to support the ML/her stepbrother in anything to increase her survival only leads her ironically to become the main target by anyone.
Still, You re right about that she/Ran doesn't have a choice or other good options and it is because the author has written her this way. For me you just confirmed that despite Ran's achievements she is always at the receiving end and I can say for sure that the ML/Male protagonist always overcome the impossible odds due to his special status, abilities and equipments given by the author personally.

The author seems to have fetish of having female characters break down mentally it seems.
The FL must be looked down upon, humiliated, outcast-ed from society, have a terrible immediate family, attempted to be raped, successfully raped, have heart broken multiple times, deaths/complete breakdowns of someone who actually cares about them and god knows what else to do to continue it.

2) The Original Novel Ran - Who was killed by Yustav when she was 7 year old
3) The FL Ran in Original story written by author - She prevents(or not) the first rape from robby, but then is gangraped by him and his friends, she gets pregnant and fully traumatised, Yustav leaves her behind and goes to romance someone else, Ran then has to marry her rapist - robby, this was author original intention for this story.

Nothing, assuming all of the info shared is true, it is nothing more than gratification of someone else misery.
I mean, A person killed in life to be at unfamiliar place, where the family who loved her dies all together, one who doesn't love her remains and she has to work so hard to get on his good graces so she is not killed at moment's thought, while having to deal with people trying to rape her, then getting raped and bearing a child she doesn't even know father of, heavily in PTSD - She has hope of Yustav will stay with her to end and become her light beacon, but what does she get for all the suffering?
