Emperor Minchester (Linden's dad), Marquess El Clorance (Elise's dad) and Marian Childe (Michael's mom) were all friends. Teresa (Elise's Mom) and Rebecca (Linden's Mom) are friends, who passed by the trio. Minchester and El both fell for Teresa. Teresa chose El.
Minchester was sad and Rebecca comforted him. They both fell in love. They got married and he wanted her to be the Empress. The Childe family opposed it. The compromise was that Michael's mom would be the Queen(lower than the empress).
All was good, Minchester and Rebecca had three children, The first imperial prince, The first imperial Princess, Evelyn and the second imperial prince, Linden. Marian also had Michael , but she was still jealous.
The Childe family fabricated a story that Rebecca and Evelyn badmouthed some nobles and pushed for Rebecca to be deposed. So that Marian would be the most powerful in the palace. Minchester knew it was fabricated and told them that he would get them out of confinement. Rebecca and Evelyn couldn't take all the mental damage and both committed suicide by falling off the ledge. Linden saw them commit suicide, and he was traumatized.
After that Linden and Michael's relationship started souring. Marian was confined indefinitely and she went insane. The first imperial prince died in the Angelique war. Linden became the Crown Prince (Linden is probably older that Michael).
For reader like me the characters are just soap opera stupid.
My impression is it has become very sappy melodramatic and nobody is really blaming the father/previous emperor...
Elise has become literally such pure innocent angelic saint who needs to cry and suffer for the dark haiired ML...
I can say for sure started to question the fantasy romance trope: ML has to be a cold royal prince with tragic past, FL is has to be the ideal innocent virginal figure/doormat, Falling in love with your murderer/executioner again, pro monarchy drama etc...
So Georgia as a wife gets ignored and cheated by her husband until she got very deadly sick and then her husbad realized his love for her...
What a load of crapΣ(  ̄□ ̄||)
This is the frustrating conservative romance trope again:
Women has to suffer tremendously for shitty men so they can reform to better men...
╥﹏╥
Ikr, and even though she's been permitted to have sex with other people. She can't even do that because her crazy husband blind folds her and has sex with her. What on earth!? All the women in this thing are just objects and they aren't able to do anything. I don't know why I'm still reading this but I'm so glad I don't live like her
Any clues or theories why female authors wants to see their own MC/FL undergoing so much misery???
In "The Viridescent Crown" the transmigrated MC gets often enough drugged, kidnapped, almost raped, gang-raped and killed. And of course, the dark haired ML tsundere (also her stepbrother) is the one with the only superior power who always saves her. Despite getting the power of summoning spirits, she is still a damsell...
In the original novel that was later revised she suffers all the sexual violences and rape.
Funny thing is, everything that happens to her is because of the ML!
You won't believe the true motive of the "sister" Ariel...

After reading the spoilers I have to say the story has become a little too absurd and stupid for me.
Nothing beats the outrageous story of MELISSA from "BEWARE OF THE VILLAINESS"....

In chapter 73 Seme/ML gets slapped by his evil conservative stupid father again and doesn't really retaliate (╬ ̄皿 ̄)凸 despite being powerful himself....
By the way, why is the mother still supportive of her patriarchal obnoxious "ex-husband".
Talking about being brainwashed and following a toxic ideology...
That's unfortunate a thing or rule in the Asian Drama World: Now matter what you can't slapped/hit back at your shitty parent. I ve been observing this trope in many stories made in Asia for a while and I always hated this logic.
And there are the devoted (ex)wives/mother of the MCs who never blame their scum husbands... One of the reasons why the evil father or mother gets away with almost anything is because their spouses are so dumb, ignorant, passive and narrow-minded.
In "Marriage Not Dating" and "Marriage Contract" the wives leave their cheating shitbag of husbands for good!

The evil promiscuous twin and the other twin who is too innocent passive & harmless but also too stupid because she lies to be with the ML.

The Doppelgänger Motif in "A Stolen Life"
I prefer if the MC has more guts, self-respect and wouldn't for a ML who was already tasted by his evil twin brother.
That is so much far worse than DEATH IS THE ONLY ENDING FOR THE VILLAINESS...
Recommendation: FL becomes a nurderous insane badass after being killed too much time.

A female protagonist always has to suffer the most in a story until she is saved by ML(s).
It is a nightmare/hell that you have to somehow survive as a baby in an absurd impossible enviroment. Why even putting her in the first place there?
Now compared to a Male protagonist who may very likely struggling in a shonen drama situation but he is given in a way better "options" and "equipments"....
He may gets help from other nice strong people but in the end he gets somehow his latent power awaken and becomes more untouchable/independent.
A FL on the other hand has to endure years of harassment longer and spend years on charming, praising, healing and relying on other people/men to survive.
This is so nervewrecking and toxic!
I noticed the different treatment of a male and female protagonist in many fantasy novel settings. And I must say the male hero is often better equipped with power which he will fully utilize it. But the heroine is contantly restricted and undermined by anything...
I don't care about the argument that this is how it is or that is realistic because it is rooted in IRL... BULLCRAP!!!"
Do I have to remind you that it is a fantasy genre where anything is possible::::
I'm guessing what you're trying to say that men have more "power-fantasy" stories, and women have less... (that's what the trope type is called btw).
There are a lot, but they usually aren't in like...the romance genre if you catch my drift? I find more female power-fantasy in things that aren't shoujo. As for why that is, I don't know.
That's the word POWER FANTASY!
The Fantasy Romance Genre is often quite disempowering for female MCs. No matter how smart and strong you are you always gets weaken, patronized or saved by the superior questionable ML.
Female Power Fantasy:
CLAYMORE; Light & Shadow, Beware Of The Villainess, The Pet Of The Villainess, The Duchess with an Empty Soul, The Lady and the Beast, Kingdom of the Queen and Majo To Kiketsu No Kishi.
Yeah a lot of my fav female power fantasy series don't involve romance...
People usually misunderstand because it's not about women who have magical abilities, it's about showing off women being badasses and wielding said power in an active leadership position.
Like 12 Kingdoms, Birdy the Mighty, Shinsekai Yori, Chevalier D'eon, Blood+. None of these are romance by genre.

Just kill the damn father!
