In chapter 9 it is shown that the Uke has no backbones or tooth to stand up for himself against anyone. Without the blonde seme he seems such a pushover and so helpless.
In chapter 8 there is a paparazzi/stalker who will very likely harm the UKE because he is connected to the Seme..
I ve seen it many times before.

It is so frustrating to see him like this....
Again this Yaoi trope: Uke suffers as doormat, Seme heroically saves him.

I really like the artstyle but I am disappointed and frustrated about the cliche characterization of the Uke.
Maybe I am reading too much into it but:
An Asian subservient demure bottom and the blonde white shiny looking heroic Top...

It really is quite problematic how often you see foreign mainly Eurocentric centered and occasional Arab cultures be fetishized for their hyper masculinity and perpetuate the stereotype of fully ethnic Asian men as being emasculated and submissive. Ethnically mixed Asian people defaulting to Eurocentric features and “exotic” ambiguity. It’s so bizarre seeing from Asian women themselves who are also subjected to this but that’s society’s prejudices for you.

As an Asian I was brainwashed for years by this eurocentric, Orientalism or Hollywood propaganda.

But thanks to my growing critical thinking and the rise of educational social progressive videos in Youtube I started abandon these toxic norms.
Why are shitty rich white guys the only desirable options for us?????
By the way the Arabs/Persian Sheiks in Harlequin novels or any webtoons look too caucasian.

I'm very agree with you. It's a characteristic that's very often seen in BL/Yaoi to the point where most of the BL ressemble to each other nowadays. But let's not forget that even when the characters aren't europeens they rarely look Asians anyways (lol). Though this looks like it's a thing specific to Shojos and BL since it's a world of girl fantasies; we get to see less of this in Shonen and Seinen genres where the characters look more Asians. I think one of the reasons why they (Asians women authors) are doing this is because there is this attraction, phantasm they have for (the men of) other different cultures, their differences, and for obvious reasons like the anatomy, simply... While, yeah, the Uke who's Asians is always smaller, delicate and defenseless...
( ̄へ ̄)This doesn't help of the situation of Asian men who already suffer from a harsh image.

I totally agreed... wanted to say this for long time but held it back because people on here will just attack you fir your honest opinion. This the same reason I have issues with mixed race yaoi. Why is the Asian guy always the uke with these relationships??

MangaAnger9 February 10, 2021 9:17 am

I know that two parents are better than one and that raising a child alone is very very hard but I am really getting tired of the excuse/shaming "A child needs two parents!" or "How will the society/people look at the child born out of wedlock?!

How about just sharing the parental rights and give her a fair child support???

A youtuber said once that children will likely become criminals when they don't have a mother and father... And my thought was WHAT?!
Even in a typical nuclear family both parents can be abusive, neglectful or can screw up their kids!

I am starting to believe that Harlequin Romance novels keep punishing and demonizing single independent mothers...

I need good counter arguments why it is not wrong to be a single parent!

    MangaAnger9 February 10, 2021 9:26 am

By the way, the FL is just pathetic stupid and weak.
I know there are single mothers out there who are smart, strong, resilient and not guillable!

    Goodymocha February 10, 2021 12:08 pm

I'm not saying this just to make good figure, seriously BRAVO. This is a little out of place but I've experienced a lot in point of what society thinks. I was adopted by a couple of two men, they raised me and gave me all the love the world could have, BUT what woud you expect from society? ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭ people then be like " how could they raised a child?; Two men don't have that flick a woman has; the love a mother can't be compare to anything; how pitiful is that child?" Not sure if I made my point
Society thinks the "normal/ideal couple" to raise children are a man&woman.

    EXUSE ME? STFU
A woman can raise their child perfectly well (of course if the situation is ideal for that), they can perfectly well manage that with hard work physically an emotionally/mentally, ths most important thing is the will to do it, if you're not determined you won't get anywhere, of course you woud need help in general but the point is A WOMAN CAN PERFECTLY WELL BE INDEPENDENT, RAISE THEIR CHILD ALONE
And of course the same can apply to a single father.

Geez I hate the way this damn society can prejudice the things about a single parent (╬ ̄皿 ̄)凸

I'm not sure if I should have said that about me, it didn't have anything to do with your argument but I wanted to precise about how easily society can prejudice married couples/single parents ┗( T﹏T )┛shit now I'm embarrassed bye

    Lioness94 February 10, 2021 1:07 pm

True that! My parents divorced about 20 years ago, when my sister and I were around 6-7 years old. For a while we had sleepovers at our father’s house, thought that didn’t last. Our mom raised two girls on her own and we turned out ok.
I really can’t like those kinds of stories either.

Don't be embarrassed. Thank you very much for sharing your informations!

You must have a decent good childhood because of your loving two dads :)

I personally had to raise myself because my own family were too toxic for me.
They fed and clothed me but they were incapable of answering difficult questions or teaching me actual useful healthy things. It was my inner rage and intelligent curiousity that led me to discover emancipation, empowerment, self-respect and social progressiveness themes.

A good parent is a good parent regardless of gender or status.
A single woman or a man who is willing to work very hard and sacrifice many things for her child/ren deserves lots of deep respect.
It looks like that Scandinavia treats single parents very well...

If there is a single father (ML) in Harlequinn Novel World, he is either unwilling, desperate, ignorant, cruel or incompentent until FL shows up who is a natural virginal caretaker.

No matter how edgy these Romance Novels want to be, they are still "safe" and very conservative/sexist.

Completely agree. Grew up reading this sort of novel (far too young haha), as a child of a single parent household and definitely internalised the shame and feeling as if our family type wasn't as 'worthy' as those in two parent households.

Now, I dread thinking my mum was reading this crap... Thank fudge there's more independent writers and ebooks now.

I'm proud to be a child of a single parent household. I am emotionally strong and am soooo close with my mum. Too many parents (particularly mums) are shamed and guilted into staying in relationships that aren't working. Why? Cos of the stigma and shame.

I recognise these Harlequins are dated, but I looked on my library's shelves pre-lockdown and these kinds of trite storylines were still being peddled ヽ(`Д´)ノ

And Harlequin (or Mills & Boon in the UK) are having more sales than ever. It doesn't make sense

I can't believe the UKE/former Seme Taeho has to suffer the toxic Yaoi trope again!
I was hoping he would hooked up with someone else before ending up with playboy seme... But nooo instead he gets almost raped/sexually assaulted by a blond stranger who was hired by a jealous blueberry bitch... Seriously!!!???
Why does this UKE needs to suffer so the shitty ML can reform (/TДT)/
Can't we have a pure fun yaoi without the melodrama and conspiracy?

But the thing is the Uke gets sexually assaulted because of the Seme.
Seme playboys only reform or change for the better because they see their Uke suffering.
The same applies to many Alphaholes in Harlequin Romance Novels and Asian Romance Stories.
Him getting hurt by a jealous psycho bitch is a typical plot device to strenghten their bonds more stronger.

Not really the Seme is not responsible for other peoples actions. The blueberry hoe took it upon himself to send to someone to rape Taeho. I get what you mean by he was sexually assaulted so it can prove their bond is stronger, but you can’t really blame the Seme for actions someone did on their own.

I actually blame the author for using this (telenovela) trope.
I get that dumb hoes can do ugly scenes for being dumped but hiring someone to rape the Uke? Seriously?
I would have prefered if Blueberry were getting revenge on Seme, not taking it out on the Uke.

Does the blueberry hoe even get charged or go to prison?

I am asking because jealous bitches in yaoi/bl often gets away with a warning and to an absurd extent the Uke is always so forgivable without much trauma.

I don't mind bisexual MLs but love between adoptive siblings is just...

It is just bizarre to form a love relationship with someone who literally is your family.
MC basically grows up with and raise the ML since they were children...

And what exactly is the point for heterosexual FL being transmigrated in a BL Novel?
Is it about turning a supposed lgtb character straight???

MangaAnger9 February 8, 2021 5:53 am

A mutual metaphorical master and slave sex relationship is hot and sexy.

But a forced sexual relationship between a literal master and a slave is just wrong...

That asshole duke master didn't need to rape the MC.
The author could have just give the MC the choice to seduce him for better priveledges or the dominant Seme would seduce him by offering better protection in exchange for his body!
