I just don't know how I feel, except there's something that's not quite right right about this. On the one hand I'm sad and moved by the seme and feel like hitting the somewhat obtuse uke over the head, yet on the other repulsed by the actions of the seme in a way that really doesn't mix very well with the first feeling. So in the end, this leaves me with a sort of off feeling in my gut, slightly sick to my stomach for trying to go with 2 very different feelings at the same time. The seme was just a bundle of too many contradictions for me to accept. Nor did I get why if the uke knew that seme was from a wealthy family would he be worried about having to feed him (on his last 300 yen) as a neet. It would make sense if the uke didn't know.
I can't help but wonder if the seme was trying to provoke uke with that string of girls into saying something. That or the mangaka had a decided change of mind as to his character. Because his behavior is sort of strange if he not only was aware of the uke's feelings but actually returned them for some time.
I definitely think he was testing and provoking the Kouta in the beginning--Haruto has a strong manipulative streak in him. He knew Kouta liked him but Haruto is used to being pursued.
Finally, Kouta has permission to express his affection openly, like his past gfs.
Kouta, on the other hand, had zero expectations and acted like it. Instead of Haruto getting to bathe in the sunlight of Kouta's grateful adoration, he's getting drunk at another guy's place and telling him to forget the confession Haruto worked so hard to hear in the first place. lol, it was the first time Haruto ever had to be in pursuit so the cool facade crumbled.
I still find this story adorable and funny. And still think that the mangaka's use of chibi is just brilliant. But I do find it misleading that she chose draw Yuuto so young looking when he's actually 17. It in no way looks like there's just a 3 yr age gap between him and Touji, nor does he look the same age as his 17 yr old cousin. In fact Yuuto even looks younger than his 14 yr old cousin. And kind of acts it too.
This is very cute and adorable. But as much as I like and enjoy it, I'd be the first to admit the story is full of holes. Like why would anybody who suspects or knows his GF is cheating on him be having warm fuzzy dreams about her? From personal experience when someone close to you betrays you or hurts deeply it haunts your dreams as well for a while. At best you dream of other things, helping you to move on. I suppose what bothers me is that while I can accept the supernatural as part of the premise of the story with no problem, I still expect people in the story to be true to human nature. Otherwise the whole thing just feels unreal.
He did say he had not been resting well the previous nights, maybe he started having those fluffy dreams as a consequence of the situation with his girlfriend -like trying to remember the good times to forget his problems and then waking up feeling even worse or something. That's why when michiru started eating his dreams he could finally sleep well and wake up refreshed (if I'm not mistaken, when a baku eats a dream the person is suposed to forget about the dream they had).
I actually got the impression that he started having sweet and fluffy dreams in response to the presence of Michiru. And when it comes to dreams, I will pretty much go along with anything, because I still have dreams about my most asshole exes where they are the nicest people on Earth and I'm in love with them again, and it makes no sense. And I would have those dreams too even when we were still together but everything was ending and falling apart. Damn, it sucked so much to wake up from those happy dreams when reality is so starkly different.
But honestly, I think your point is valid, and I am hoping that these holes you see will be addressed in upcoming chapters. I mean, I'm assuming the happy dreams come from Michiru's presence, but at this point, it's just an assumption, and assumptions don't make good plots!
I agree with you on the lack of logic in the script. There are plenty of inconsistencies, including the one you're talking of, plus we don't get to know why he looks so angry while sleaping, why his girlfriend treats him bad, why he's working so hard, why he suddenly becomes interested in a boy and kisses him without even getting an answer to some questions such as "what sort of ghost are you?" etcetera. But this story is "marked as incomplete", so the mangaka could have all the explanations in store for us if we're patient enough for her/him to draw them out..
Dreams aren't the quite the same as memories, where we can be selective on what we choose to focus on. And I would normally say that if a person who dreamed of warm happy times of his past while not dealing with his painful present was in a state of mental denial. A sign of not being able to cope with reality. The thing that doesn't add up for me is if he isn't over his GF and her painful betrayal, he wouldn't be having a warm fluffy dream about them as a couple without some twist at the end if he was dealing with it. If he was over her, even in dreams he'd reject that image as it no longer really was a "warm and fluffy" memory anymore. Rather it had now become a symbol of something painful and unreal. Hardly a happy dream.
I was just using this as one example of small inconsistencies that if you noticed them bothered you. And while I don't take it too seriously, I think with a bit more thought it some of these issues could have been avoided. So I suppose what bothers me is that while no doubt in some areas the mangaka and editor probably focused their efforts, I can't help but feel that in others they were at best indifferent. Most these inconsistencies could be fairly easily tweaked without changing the plot as it is, but keeping it more real.
It's not really necessary to take the dream-thing seriously in the story, since it's just an excuse for the mangaka to create a link between a cute ghost-like creature and a human man. The fact that he's tormented in some way just makes him more interesting, to us as well as to the little baku, who himself has problems of his own, being such a picky eater that he's on the brink of starvation (whatever will they come up with next? XD aren't mangaka funny people? ).
That said, dreams have always intrigued us humans, we can't help trying to find "meaning" in them. I'm not sure they're supposed to have that; as far as I can tell, they're simply thoughts we think during our sleep, thoughts that get made visible, like films, by our imagination, and since while dreaming we're not bothered by common sense nor inhibitions the way we would be in reality, we're not going to stop the thought as soon as it starts looking silly or unrealistic or inconsistent with reality. So sometimes dreams go on beyond what had really happened, what we know is possible, or the antagonists (ourselves included) turn out to behave in a different way than they would in reality. I'm thinking about your dreams of these exes, Daisies&Lilies... and myself, I often dream I'm reacting to conflicts of all sorts in a way I would never do in real life: sometimes I am sooo much more assertive in my dreams that once woken, I sigh and wish I could be that way in real life, instead of letting everybody walk all over me!
And sometimes in dreams, I react in a really agressive way, do things like rant and holler, kick and hit, things I'm far too civilised and peaceful to do in real life. Then when I wake up, I think: in my dreams, I am a real asshole sometimes... :-P
Not that it ever helps me, for that matter: I always lose the battle or conflict anyway. It's the way I fight that's different.
Whether that means I'm displeased with my own real personality and wish I was different, or whether I am aware of the fact that there for fortune I could have been a jerk, I don't know. Maybe a bit of both.
Anyway, this is very interesting. But the story isn't finished, so we'll have to wait until the mangaka has finished some more episodes, and has them translated.
I don't think there's a consensus on what exactly dreams are and what purpose they serve. But I think most would agree that most dreams (whether a person remembers or not) are the kind that allows us to work through mental garbage. Like the example you gave of being way more aggressive in a dream, probably meant on some level you were getting rid of the mental frustration and aggravation you felt, but couldn't, perhaps wisely enough, express IRL. We all get really annoyed and angry without being free to say so at times, and dreams can allow us to not only express ourselves without any real damage done, but as you said when we wake up we realize that's definitely NOT what we want to do. Besides, if you're still losing the conflict in your dream it might be because you deep down know that no amount of yelling would make a difference.
The point being there are times when people could be expected to have happy dreams of someone like a close friend or a relative, but not when they were in the middle of emotional turmoil because that person hurt them. However nice the dream starts it changes at point. The mildest I've personally experienced is simply separating with a sense of forever. I understood when I woke that as things stood that's what would happen.
But even if the manga continues to be full of holes, I will still find interesting and cute, and will continue to enjoy reading it.
If only to serve us as food for thought, about dreams, it's already a good reason to hope for next episodes, right?
I like it when mangaka don't simply copy Western style stories, but delve into the mythology of their own Japanese culture, and come up with creatures like fox people, forest gods, dream eaters and that kind of stuff! No sense in being Japanese and able to draw well, if you're going to make manga that could just as well been made in America or England, right? it's got to be realreal Japanese, that's why we don't get tired of it... let others keep reading those endless superhero-marvel-comics that always begin and end the same way...
This is one one of those stories that kind of leaves me scratching my head wondering what to think. I'm not really sure I like either of the characters at this point, though if I had to choose I'd say Kubo was slightly worse than Eichi. Kubo is the one who basically forces his unwanted company and later sex on Eichi, and all because he likes the looks of the guy. Talk about being shallow. All one can say about Eichi is that he is an unfriendly and unsociable person, but there may be cause for that. But even if he had cause I still wouldn't like him much. So what's left at this point? The sex? So despite not liking either MC, the sex is between these guys is supposed to keep me hooked?
Tbh, I get what you said, and kinda feel like that as well. But the story keeps mentioning about colorlessness, so I guess that's what gets seme hooked to uke other than his look. I mean he's so nonchalant at everything, I don't even understand why he wanna be a model. And that makes me really curious and wanna find out the back story of uke. And that uke switching mode. Man, I'm so curious why, this gets me really hyped to keep on reading this manga. If sensei don't answer these questions before the manga ended, I'll be so let down TT.
First, while I don't know exactly whose fault it was that the inn wasn't prepared ahead of time for foreigners, I can't help but wonder that they didn't notice when checking people in. You'd think they would realize ahead of time they were going to need English speaking staff at dinner, so that was a mistake on the part of the management.
Second, quite a few comments here have faulted the MC for being openly unhappy about the job, and with some justification. BUT if you had applied and felt lucky to get a job that then turned out to be something else than what you were led to expect but couldn't afford to quit, I think most people would take a few days to get over their disappointment and to appreciate perhaps the job they did get.
IDK- By the end of ch. 2 I was wondering if that guy really is as kind as the MC thinks. I'm not saying he's bad exactly, just used to putting on a "kind" act for professional reasons, and not much used to be shown much kindness himself. So will he be more inclined of taking advantage of our needy and somewhat clueless MC? I hope not but have my fears.
I'm absolutely in love with this. I only just found it recently, and read the 100+ plus chapters in one go. That is until there was no more and I now await every update. But my fear is that this is one of those stories that will carry on for ever, or at least as long as they possibly can sell it. Meaning, that it might, as it has been the case with other long running mangas and animes, start to suffer from plot fillers and other such devices as time goes on. Personally, I hope not. Or I hope they did the wise thing, and resolved certain issues along the line, the way a good trilogy does at the close of each book (and without cliffhangers) without ending the story. Because after some 130+ chapters I do want to know that there will be some resolution to some of the problems that have been there since the beginning, and it doesn't all have to come at the end.
Aside from the fact that its fiction, and of a very specific type, meaning an erotic manga, I do hope that isn't just going to be about how they become a happy threesome. I mean the characters are somewhat cliché and stereotypical, but it would be nice if those semes took the time, and showed a bit of personality to try to not only improve the uke self-image through appearance but perhaps helped him to see what inner qualities he had that made him much more than mediocre. I often find that stories that take a little trouble over their characters, even in genres like this, are the ones that tend to be better received.
In my opinion it's not the type of manga that would make my heart skip a beat from reading it or would make me think "aww they're really in love with each other" no 3some has yet made me feel that way when reading a BL manga only monogamy.
I agree. But between making your heart skip and treating the characters as no more than cardboard figures who are merely vehicles for to deliver the plot, and in this case erotic elements, there is a medium to which I was referring. I wouldn't expect a story like this to have the sort of 'feels' that would make hearts skip, that isn't it's focus, but that doesn't mean that the characters have to be devoid of personality and not be able to show consideration for each other beside lust.

This is the usual enjoyable fluff. And that lick at the end was HOT! BUT as often seen there was also a SOB of a father. Couldn't help but wonder if his son might be hiding in that room exactly because he didn't want to be what the father wanted him to be? But this will probably end the usual way, instead of Daddy dearest having to admit that his son wasn't made for business (but the arts?) he will be proven right to have kicked him out.
