Some comments in another thread got me wondering about how people see Fei's personality compared to Mikhail. I don't mean whether or not people ship them (though it's cool if you do). I mean, how are they alike or different, and how do their roles in the story compare?
I know at least one person sees Mikhail as a discount Fei (at least in this arc), and some think Mikhail is helping Fei and Asami by exposing weaknesses in their organization (how nice). Personally, I see Fei as the embodiment of a dragon spirit: beautiful and lethal, but deeply loyal to those he loves. I see Mikhail as a trickster whose attraction is somewhat marred by what I perceive as his "frat boy" humor (but I know others enjoy that kind of thing).
So what do you guys think of them? Who would win in a battle of wits? Would Mikhail throw a jello wrestling match just to feel Fei pin him down? What entertainment could the two of them do together that would interest both of them? What are their fatal flaws?
Feel free to answer in the form of "rap battle" verse if the mood strikes you.
Meh. I've always thought Fei was the discount Fei, and 90% of his attraction for readers is his hair. With apologies to Anne Gregory, how many could love him for himself alone and not his long glossy hair? Take away that and you have an ineffective lovesick toddler who would not otherwise be countenanced. Although he makes a handy psychological vessel for those who can't suppress their sexual jealousy against Akihito.
And since Mikhail didn't get his own whole volume sob story, it's hard to compare him to Fei since we don't know what's driving him. And rest assured, he has a sad backstory. It's literally written on his back in stripes.
You say it's hair that makes the man?
I say it's heart, because he can
rebuild from nothing but force of will
Take what he needs, move for the kill
Beautiful, yes but also deadly
Mashing up his own Baishe medley
Keeps his rival's son close like a treasure
He's a master of pain as well as pleasure
Keeps his eyes on the prize, doing a three way
Now the Dragon's on the rise--What does the fox say?
So the fox has some scars from uncle Yuri?
Mikhail's still a fail, so he'd better hurry
and make his way, if he could
You got a lot to say, so Mikhail, what's good?
Mikhail covers his deadly side with humor. Fei never jokes when he is serious.I think they like to flirt with each other but neither is serious about it,if they where they would have acted on it by now.Neither would be good for the other. they could not trust the other because of who they represent.I can see Mikhail with Kuroda . , he can take him in the jello wrestling and no competition. they can spend their time debating each other. Fei (if you give up on Yoh can't see those two apart)and Kirishima , he needs that personality type to make take care of him. I know I am in the minority, but that is how I feel.
Oh no, my friend, you went too far
Kuroda is mine, better raise the bar
Let Mikhail have Sodou, Yuri, or Kou
Let him safari with Mitarai
or Sakazaki for now
The fox is tricky, but take a look
Can you imagine Mikhail reading a book?
Kuroda is snarky and cool as snow
But he is also smart and loyal; it's so
Kuroda is a guard dog, trained to defend
The fox is his foe to the bitter end
You can ship it if you want to
How could I stop it?
But if your ship ever sails,
Kuroda better top it.
@ Anoni( Asami's bro) Kuroda Shinji is all yours lock stock and two smoking guns. That was a good and plenty one" Bows".Poetic. hahahahaha. made me laugh.
Really? Mikhail and Feilong, similar?! In my eyes, they couldn't be more different. Where should I even start?
Well, for one, Mikhail is unpredictable and almost impossible to figure out. He does seem to have a dark backstory, but I doubt it's a similar one to Feilong's; it just wouldn't fit, especially with the kind of scars he has. He's cunning. You can never be sure if he's being genuine or just lying to your face with a smile on his own. He will do almost anything for his personal gains. He won't let himself be influenced by emotions like Feilong, but he won't hesitate to abuse it if another person does, as long as it benefits him. Instead he acts on his whims, which can be much more dangerous, because it makes it impossible to foresee what he's going to do; he might pursue one goal one day and competely lose interest the next.
He seems to have both a sadistic and a masochistic side, and he's pretty open about it (as opposed to Feilong, who definitely has a sadistic side but I'm convinced has also some buried masochistic streak that he mostly keeps hidden away, maybe out of pride, maybe out of fear of being backstabbed or hurt, maybe both).
Mikhail is always talking in the same manner, jesting, flirting, so it's easy to miss when there's something else beneath that - it can be a cynical jab or a hidden threat; but I also feel there's something else going on about him. Like the scene when he nonchalantly showed Fei and Asami the scars on his back, clearly hinting at something dark in his past, and yet still keeping his light and casual tone. Something about that moment unsettles me.
One of the biggest differences, though, is one you have already pointed out: if Feilong does love someone, he will throw his all into it. I can't see Mikhail do the same. As you said, he's a trickster, and trusting him to be loyal seems like a bad idea.
Also, Feilong is (melo)dramatic, jealous, and vengeful, which I don't think applies to Mikhail. And Mikhail (unlike Sudou, who Fei was also compared to in the previous thread) has no real personal interest in Asami as far as we know, so I really don't understand why you would compare him to Feilong or even see them as remotely similar. If anything, Mikhail has a thing for Fei, and he doesn't really make a secret of it. The only thing they might have in common is that I think they're both seke material...?
Wow...I feel like I've missed some points, but maybe I should stop now. This is getting a bit lengthy. ^^
I have the same ideas. I don't know about Mikhail, but Fei Long is a seke for sure.:)
Ugh I really hope there won't be a Mikhail focused 'flower in the loft' type backstory volume. Even one chapter would be too much for that. I'd rather find out more about Kuroda, since he seems to have some sort of history with Asami. In my opinion, I can't see Mikhail and Fei working out at all. Fei is too emotionally dependent to be able to work out with someone like Mikhail who seems to have some serious issues of his own. I could see Fei with Yoh maybe, since Yoh would be willing to dedicate his life to Fei but their story would be 100% angst and 100% boring.
There is something interesting about Mikhail in Fei Long's light novel. For example: In the past Mik was a soldier and actually he's trading weapons from the Russian Army. :)
@anonymous 2 your look at Mikhail was good,
Going on pure speculation (because we have nothing else to go on), why do you think we do not see anything about Asami's parents and only hear about Aki's parents in passing?
I wonder if it's possible Aki's parents are divorced. A long time ago, someone in a discussion on another yaoi (I forget who to credit and I forget the manga) explained to me that in Japan, when custody is awarded after a divorce the child usually loses the other parent. It's not like in the US where they usually have visitation schedules and there is a push for joint decision making about things such as education and healthcare. So, if Aki's parents were divorced, it would explain why his dad didn't get involved until Aki got into trouble as a teen, and maybe why Aki lists his mother by her first name in his phone instead of by the Japanese equivalent of "Mom". Of course, they do not have to be divorced, but it would explain why there is no united family present in Aki's day to day life, and why no one expects Aki to come home for the holidays.
Speaking of holidays, it seemed to me like Asami was completely alone on New Year's. I assume Kirishima and Souh have the day off to visit loved ones. Asami takes the time to sleep in. It doesn't look like he had plans until Aki started calling him. Do you think Asami's parents could be dead? Or did they abandon him (or vice verse)? Even an alpha male seme should visit his mother at least once a year, right? Of course, Asami didn't visit Kuroda either, which might blow my theory about them being brothers or half brothers, but if they have different mothers, Kuroda could be visiting his mom. Can you imagine parents showing up in Asami's life and having opinions as to what Asami does? Or do you think he is probably and orphan?
Woah, easy there tiger. You are going completely overdrive again with all this speculations (Akihito's parents divorced, Asami's parents dead). The simple fact is: We don't know. We have no way of knowing. And unless sensei drops us some cold, hard intel on the matter, we won't ever know. End of. Chillax. Live a little. You know, you often sound as if Viewfinder is all you think about 24/7.
Just as an aside: on my phone, my mom is listed by name and not as "mom". I did at one time consider scanning the same photo* Akihito has for Asami on his phone and listing her as "Asami Ryuichi" because I thought it be amusing to see that show up when she calls my phone.
Who knows, maybe I still will (屮`∀´)屮
*[see: http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/you_re_my_loveprize_in_viewfinder/mh/v07/c045/ ]
I think that all the mysterious things involving both characters are plot devices. Probably the author intends to develop the story little by little in her own way. I, sometimes, have the idea that Asami has to do with the secret services and maybe, at some point of his life, had to change his identity...I know, mine is just a mere speculation. :)
What makes you think Aki's dad wasn't involved with his life until he was a teen? In that BeBoy investigation where Aki's at the nursery school, he talks to one of the kids about his dad and how he was scary when he got mad. So his dad was around when Aki was a little kid. As far as New Year's goes, we know Aki's dad is a world traveler, so maybe Aki's parents were out of the country.
The thing is, this is all speculation. What we do know is that the few times Aki has thought of his parents, it's fairly affectionate. Doesn't mean anything is broken or bad in their relationship, just that he's a young, independent guy establishing his own life and not in constant contact with his parents.
Of course it is all speculation. That's the point--it's a "what if". You know, imaging things for fun and discussion.
As for why I think Aki's dad was not much involved before he was a teen, it may be a translation issue. To me, when someone says Aki's dad got involved when Aki started getting into trouble as a teen, it implies his dad wasn't much involved before that. Also, people can get divorced any time, some maybe Aki remembers that his dad was scary when his dad was angry because it happened before a divorce.
It's equally valid to speculate that the family has a great relationship, but work at demanding jobs at far off locations, as you say. There is also certainly a wide spectrum of possibilities between "broken" and "close" and most families move a little between being more towards one side of that or more towards the other.
I notice no one has been upset (yet) that I hypothetically killed off Asami's parents before we got to see Mrs. Asami show up and demand Asami put out his cigarettes and stop drinking so much. (By "Mrs. Asami", I mean his mom, not Aki). Don't you want to argue they could be very close and demanding grandchildren?
I've entertained both of these speculations at times. My latest one is that Asami was raised someplace other than Japan, which is why his past can't be traced.
Also, Sensei has said there is no record of "Asami Ryuichi" ever leaving the country, so he has legal documents (a passport, at least) under another name.
Okay, it's just the way you worded that part in particular: "So, if Aki's parents were divorced, it would explain why his dad didn't get involved until Aki got into trouble as a teen" it sounds like the divorce is the speculation for the fact that the dad isn't involved. It wasn't clear that the dad not being involved was also speculation.
My feeling is that this story is so tight, there is little room for aspects that don't directly influence the plot and that is the main reason we get so little info on Aki's parents. The fact that we get any mention of Aki's parents at all says a lot, as is the fact that we get zero mention of any of Asami's family connections. I believe this is sensei's way of making use of the space she has to further differentiate the disparate lifestyles of her two lovers.
That sounds really interesting. Thanks! :)
I agree with you about Sensei making choices about what is most relevant to the story. I believe that even if Sensei didn't limit herself, some editor would make suggestions. I am not criticizing the story, merely playing around with it.
I interpret the family references (and lack thereof) differently than you do, but yours is one valid way to see it. There is certainly no reason why you shouldn't make that inference. I see Aki's friends and social life as a major difference in their lifestyles, but I can't quite credit a few reference to family that same as I do people I actually see in the story. I just can't get past Aki's family not noticing that Aki disappeared for over a month without a word to anyone. There is not calling *every* day, and then there is not calling anyone for over a month, and your boss and friends not knowing where you are. The later seems like a problem to me. But it's cool if that doesn't bother you.
I think we may not get backstory on Asami because that adds to his mystery. Personally I like all those details, but some fans like not knowing. It's part of Asami's allure.
I was basing my interpretation of Aki's dad just becoming involved after Aki had problems as a teen on the way something in an interview was worded after it was translated into English. I can never find these interviews when I want to link to them, but it wasn't really part of the story anyway. I also know that there may be connotations in the translation that may not be there in the original. I will admit that part of the phrasing was based on my interpretation and not anything in the story itself. I should have qualified it by saying "why it seems to me that..." I tend to multitask when I post here, so I don't self-edit well.
I remember reading about Aki's grandma having a dog, LOL. Was this trivia in some obscure extra or did I read this in a fanfic? XD
YA has like three or four cats :)
Suoh and puppies? YES. Something fluffy and squishy and disgustingly adorable...I see him raising a litter of chow chow's. XD Or would Asami find it offensive since it's a Chinese breed?
What is the BeBoy investigation?
That would be awesome, being able to think of Viewfinder 24/7 ♡♡♡
Whatever the situation of Asami's parents, Asami does not seem to have been raised in an emotionally healthy environment (just my opinion). I say this because, for a 35 year old, Asami is a bit emotionally immature at times, not to mention that he did rape Akihito and as far as we know never felt remorse about it or apologized for it. Ok fine, the rape was back in chapter 1 and this is a yaoi manga where rape generally seems to equal Love, but still...I wouldn't want to be caught alone in a room with a guy like Asami o_O
I think you have to be able to suspend disbelief if you want to enjoy that part of the story. In real life, consent is needed and my safe word is "No" (followed by an applied sign language message which may be painful). In fiction, sometimes I can believe there is someone who can make me quiver and shake against my will, and overwhelm my senses so I can't think, because he magically knows what I want even when I deny it, and his every touch is pleasure. This may allow me to safely explore things a "good" girl would not, or it may be a sort of "coming of age" seduction. It's a device in fiction--and the fact that it is fantasy makes it safe for me--but I understand it is not for everyone.
In real life, I am against anyone seeing rape as an act of passion, since it is really about power and control. If real people want to engage in rape play, they need to talk about it before hand, have a safe word, and establish aftercare (just as with BDSM in general). No real person can actually know what you want without you telling him or her, so no real person can do what a fictions S lover may do.
It's cool if you don't like that part of the story, but to me it looks like Aki was enjoying it (if reluctantly at first) and started to crave it (e.g.masturbating after seeing Asami). In fiction, rape can play many roles it wouldn't in real life--just like rape fantasy in someone's daydreams. It doesn't mean a person would want someone she or he didn't choose to take control in an unwanted way. It's just that some people enjoy the fantasy of being able to lose control in a safe setting with an idealized lover who can drive us to ecstasy. If you look at it as getting permission to be bad, it can be kind of empowering. The important thing is that you, the reader, has all the actual control and power.
This manga is 12 years old by now. awhile back I forget who said Sensi said chap. 1 was written for an S&M mag as a one shot only. She was not expecting it to go any where. The rape in chap. 1 was punishment for Takaba trying to take down Asami's business dealings. He was set up by the crooked cop.(Takaba) According to the poster she said if she knew it was going to be popular, she would have done some things differently.I would give credit but don't recall the poster. When Asami leaves Jpn. his name his never recorded as having left. Asami maybe his registered name, but not his family name. It is was not unusual for the new head of the clan to take on new a name as part of the ritual when a new one took over.(OLD days). Then again he could be so rich he just does not go through the normal check out.(private plane)
Finder will be celebrating 15 years of serialization next month. Yamane-sensei has a special extra lined up for it. And Asami is not the head of any clan...
Do we know for sure Asami doesn't head a clan of some kind? I know it's unlikely he is actually wizard, but I kind of like the thought him being head of a family that runs many types of businesses. I thought his business was a mystery and therefore could be part of an enterprise run by a clan. I am afraid I am probably reprehensible for the Asami may run a powerful clan speculation (it's just a wild theory, such as I like but I didn't think it had been ruled out). Its possible I missed something tough. It happens. :)
Replace "reprehensible" with "inconsistent." We can derive no evidence of a good relationship between Aki and his parents even though Aki mentions them affectionately and there is textual substantiation that at least as far as his job goes, his father has been supportive, but we can assume a mysterious clan for Asami even though there has been absolutely zero hint, mention, or intimation of any kind to suggest such a thing. Has it been ruled out? No. But if that's the basis of the argument, we could also say that Asami is probably a world-class Jello wrestler in his spare time. That hasn't been ruled out, either.
Come on. If there was a clan, we'd have had a whiff of it by now. It's not his business that's a mystery but his background, where he came from. I'd be more willing to buy that he walked away from or destroyed a clan in order to operate on his own that to believe there is some vast but heretofore completely invisible clan perfectly willing to remain invisible and silent and let Asami handle everything. That's not how clans work. Unless they're all dead. Which, again, would make a little more sense.
Sometimes I wonder: In that chapter which Asami is talking with Kuroda about the "superiors", who can be these persons? (powerful politicians, secret services?). Kuroda doesn't look like a corrupted prosecutor in my opinion.
LOL actually auto-fill foiled my attempt at "responsible". I am consistent in saying people all have their own interpretations of what they read, and that speculations can vary even more than interpretations.
There is a difference between interpretation and speculation, but both can vary greatly depending on the reader. In essence "we" can do whatever we want in terms of speculation as long as it is not contradicted on the page (unless we acknowledge the contradiction, and then everything is fair game). Also "we" don't have to conform to each other--there can be your POV and my POV, and that's cool. But we should be aware that everyone interprets what's on the page, and some of us also speculate.
Everyone interprets what she sees and reads, even if she is not aware she is doing it. For example, there can be differences regarding whether someone thinks Aki's mention of his parents is particularly "affectionate" or implies a "close" relationship. The fact on the page is that Aki mentions his parents. What we infer from that fact is a matter of interpretation. People interpret things differently because our brains are subjective by nature. Everyone does not speculate, but everyone interprets what is on the page--and interpretations differ.
Speculation differs from interpretation in that it is a "what if?" proposition. So *I* have some speculations and pet theories, which may be "wrong" to you but that I like to bounce around. If you want to speculate about jello wrestling, go ahead--I won't stop you. I think that Asami's business may fit into a Zabatsu style group or clan, but *you* don't have to. I have reasons, but it is *speculation*. You may not think it is good speculation, but I will have to wait and see what may or may not be revealed in the future before I choose to scrap it (or not). As long as there is no fact (and not merely an interpretation of fact) to contradict it, it's fine. I'll grant you some speculation may be more likely than others, but each reader determines for herself what speculation she thinks makes sense in context of the story (if she speculates at all).
It's cool that you see things your own way. Interpretations may differ. speculations may differ. But unless something conflicts with an actual *fact* (and not merely your interpretation of what's on the page), one is as good as another.
Life and let live.
I have a question for those of you who know more about Japanese culture and history than I do (which is probably all of you). In another thread, we were discussing how Asami could be a criminal and not be yakuza. Although I am pretty sure I got that part correct, it occurred to me that I make certain assumptions based on what I have seen in movies and on TV--and those sources are not known for accuracy (unlike yaoi, which I am sure is a picture of truth). So, for those who know, is there a clear distinction between zaibatsu (financial cliques that seem a lot like cartels or just big business) and the yakuza (organized crime which is similar in some ways to the mafia in the US)?
For me, the word yakuza brings up images of tattooed men who fight like ninjas (unless they have guns, and really, shouldn't they have guns?) and who drive cool cars. In romantic stories, yakuza can be orphans who joined to survive and made a name for themselves on the street. It starts to sound cool before people start chopping fingers off. If the government or a zaibatsu family had some deals with yakuza, I would think those were part of business, but not close ties or a matter of being on equal social footing.
I don't really know as much about zaibatsu--not even from movies. Most people in the US know of groups such as Mitsubishi and Suzuki and we probably think of cars and motorcycles, not crime. Of course, Grand Theft Auto has taught us these groups can also be criminal. My impression, which may be wrong, is that someone born into a "good" family that controls a zaibatsu has a different social rank from a yakuza boss, even if his hands are not clean. From what I have read, many zaibatsu have at least historically had both legal and illegal interests, but they were useful to the government (e.g. they would collect taxes and promote government interests). The US was going to wipe them out after WWII, but then we became scared of communism in Asia and let them do their thing. I am not saying anything bad about any real life organization, but isn't it possible to be head of some zaibatsu group and also have underworld ties?
Just adding my two cents, sensei did say that she was heavily inspired by movies for her depiction of yakuzas, and strangely much more from the chinese mafia than the japanese one. Basically, she never cared about the accuracy of it, she just wanted her world to look cool, and she made the Asami less merciless than your usual mafioso because then Akihito would've just been killed and there wouldn't been a story to tell, aha.
I'm unsure why I can't find the translation of the interview that I posted here however (has it been deleted ?_?), and the site where that French interview was posted has been taked down (it was basically abandonned) since :/
There are those who think the real yakuza are the zaibatsu. The people you see with the tatts are cover for" them"that hide in plain site. the way certain companies run and not run .( I think Asami as the Fixer is very real. post) you have any doubt they Yakuza's power goggle Smap (A Jpop group) see what happened when they wanted to retire. Of course this is just my opinion. Anoni
Yakuza involves rituals and a complex hierarchy that we do not see in Asami's operation. Asami is a lone wolf, unaffiliated with any other groups. Also, the title "Fixer" does not refer to Asami in the criminal sense. It is a photography term, a chemical used in developing film. In the context of the story, it refers to the developing relationship in that chapter. Asami is never referred to within the story as a "fixer."
fSensi never rep. or said Asami was or was not. Target in the Veiwfinder/ Fixer chap. we see Takaba fixing his photos but we also see Asami trying to retrieve that info disk for his client. He is on the job, as (in my opin. a fixer) The meaning can be taken both ways.?why can't both things be true? There are so many open spaces in this story there is no way to determine the absolute truth sometimes. The truth of this story is Takaba takes photos and works with fixer. Asami owns some night clubs, I (my opin. only based on supposition) he works as a fixer in the underworld. I never said he was yakuza. No one knows what Asami is. Who was Kuroda talking about in the penthouse when he visited when he implied that Asami had people he had to ans. to before the warehouse incident with Sudoh? Yet he is shown as working with his own crew independently. That's what's in my head and I'm going with it Every one is free to fill in the spaces in the story as they please. this story is a not accurate any way. Was not meant to be.
I read an article were some Japanese banks got into trouble because of their business dealings with yakuza, so who is to know how deep some connections go? Going by fictional examples, I could see zaibatsu using yakuza and having business relationships with certain groups. That would kind of make some yakuza the foot soldiers or street level enforcers for some zaibatsu (for some things). Maybe the lines are not so clear.
Anonymous may be right that Asami could be a lone wolf. I like a zaibatsu clan simply because to me it fits the office and comes with a ready made organization. We don't really know. :)
Is it just me or is there something strangely sexy about the way Karino shares his lollipop with Asuza in chapter 10?
http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/caste_heaven/raw/raw_chapter-10/pg-35/
Sometimes I see manga where the seme is putting his fingers in the uke's mouth and I wonder why he would do that--but for some reason the image of the lollipop being stuck in and spit out strikes me as hot. I am probably just weird.
So I was catching up on the last epi of Supergirl, and photojournalist Jimmy Olsen is caught by bad guy CEO Maxwell Lord while Olsen was trying to take incriminating photos at Lord's business. Lord has Olsen tied up and is warning Olsen off, and I was all happy. But then, all Lord does is smash Olsen's camera and beat him up. There wasn't even a caress or groping involved. The director even chose not to include a possible UST subtext. I was so bummed.
Does anyone else get inexplicably disappointed when a perfect yaoi set up is ignored in other genres?
When it's implied in other genres, frankly I don't think it's real esp. on mainstream t.v. I have never seen a show pull it off well like that. I don't watch a lot though. I saw an episiode of Sherlock once between Moriaity and Sherlock. The actors made it work with just a look. That was the only time.
I feel you my Fujoshi Sister - I watched the entire series of Hannibal recently, just waiting for Hannibal and Will to make out, and you know what? There was NOTHING! A good, hard snog would have made that brilliant series - perfect!
But there is still a very good level of subtext in there for slight (excuse the phrase) eye fucking, physical contact etc. Hence the 'Hannigram' abbreviation being adopted for this particular ship (▰˘◡˘▰)
On a side nite, I seriously wish Kishimoto-sensei went all out with the NaruSasu relastionship in Naruto - I heard that he himself ships NaruSasu, but why isn't it canon?! (╯°Д °)╯╧╧
Now that I am thinking about MM couples on TV instead of yoai set ups that didn't pan out or slash ships that sail on the whiff of subtext, I mention a few for those who may be looking.
Lafayette and Jesus on True Blood were excellent:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zEZP2fELhM
Vex and Mark on Lost girl were not the focus of the story, but I liked them:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XS1ovmpI5jc
Connor and Oliver on How to Get Away with Murder are hot:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUvsSAxtavs
There are probably more. But I can slash ship anyone.
The UK version was more realistic, but I was a sucker for Justin and Brian. The MC is Brian's BF and has to get over having had a crush on Brian since childhood--but the story of how the rich, egotistical Brian is pursued and captured by the sweet young things whose nickname is "Sunshine" is my favorite from the show (much more than the healthier,, more conventional relationships):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MJ73SqcXJs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7a3Th3weg8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWTWWh3zd7I
Justin is a bit young for my taste in season 1, and they never have much in terms of exclusivity, but they have something. There is a sort of "Sex in the City" issue in that they are all young and hot, and they hand out at clubs and date people for plot material, but in defense of the show, there is a lot of eye candy.
With the possible exception of How to Get Away with Murder, I will have to confess my fandoms are heavy on eye candy.
Maybe because beatings aren't supposed to be porn?
Depends on your kink.
It didn't have to play out as a beating. It's the exact same set up as VF. The beating is a choice. In the context of fiction, a sexy person holding another sexy person in a vulnerable situation can be written in all sorts of entertaining ways. I see it with MF heroes and villain combinations all the time.
I think VF is a very "actions speak louder than words" kind of story on several levels. There are characters who I find to be manipulative and whose words I think are almost always false or said for the purposes of provoking others (Mikhail, Mitarai, Sakazaki, Sudou and Maya/Ayu), characters who often say the opposite of what they really feel (Asami, Aki and Fei), and characters who are probably speaking what they think is true, at least as far as they know the truth but who may not know much (Tao, Takato and Kou). I think Kuroda often teases or provokes others to see the reaction--I think this is one of the ways he gathers information. As a prosecutor, his words are tools. But I trust that the information he reports to Asami is what Kuroda thinks is so. I think both Asami and Kuroda tease others affectionately in ways that could sound harsh if you took them that way. Most of the time, I can't trust words.
So far, for me, I think the most trustworthy in terms of believing what he says is Kirishima. I think when Kirishima says, "You have an appointment." that is so. I think when Kirishima scolds Aki, that's really what Kirishima thinks. I don't think he tests, exaggerates or manipulates, and I think he knows pretty much of what is going on in most cases.
Which character's words would you trust?
That is interesting question. Asami It would depend on if it was personal or business. In business , all contracts I would have reread with a fine tooth comb. He is in it ti make money for himself, that is often not fair to some one. In his personal life, I believe he would be more direct and would not lie. At least he has never lied to Takaba. What he is, he is. The secrets he keeps from him(his underground bs)well, that's up to the individual to learn how to handle or not. I agree with you about kirishima. Kuroda's teasing would anger me at some point. I would not be able to tell if he meant it or not. You forgot Suoh. lol, you know if he ever grts the chance to speak again, it will be the truth, hahaha. But I don't trust words. I would only believe if the actions followed.
Kirishima and Suoh seem reliable enough, and I agree on Tao as well. I'd also add Yoh...I know he worked under Feilong as a spy for Asami, but I see it a bit differently, I even think it really shows his loyalty. He fell in love with Feilong, and despite this, he still kept working for Asami and finished his job. That's what I call trustworthy.
Asami for Business, Takaba for personal
You know both you and RB have a point about Asami and business. On the one hand, Asami isn't running a charity and you would have to be wary. One the other hand, when he does make a deal I believe he will honor it. It may benefit him more than you if you are not careful, but he'll do what he agreed to the letter.
I'm ready for both of them to say "I love you, I'm in love with you"
A lot of people feel that way. I'm an "actions speak louder than words" fan to the point where I feel words kind of cheapen it (and don't seem right for Asami to me)--but even actions are interpreted (that is, I can see personally recusing Aki on multiple occasions and doing things like having a late fireworks display just because Aki likes it as love, and someone else may not). Words like that make me suspicious--especially from a man like Asami. But to each her own. It may be you'll get you wish--lots of fans like to see that and take words at face value.
I feel Aki will calm done some if Asami admits his love
Many people do. As my New Year's resolution, I will try not to kink-shame people who want Asami to say the L- word or who want Asami to give up his work for Aki. I will even try to stop rolling my eyes when people mention "heart". If I can accept adult people who like to wear diapers during sex and people who write mpreg erotica, I can be more welcoming to the traditional romantically inclined. It's not my thing, but I am not going to judge.
Besides, if I had to chose between (1) Asami breaking into tears and crying at the sight of gunmen, and then clinging to Aki and asking Aki for help, or (2) Asami saying the L word like it's the end of a Hallmark movie, I guess the L word would not be the most horrible thing possible. It's also better than having to see either of them have sex with a female. It's okay. I guess. If it makes you happy.
So did anyone get any good holiday gifts?
A friend gave me The Kitsune Trilogy by Anna Frost (which is unfortunately out of print) and I like the books so far. It is YA (so not for everybody) and more LGBT friendly than MM (probably because of the YA status) but there is enough to ship the MCs, and the story is good. If you get a chance to read a copy and you don't mind YA, I recommend it.
What good thing did you guys get?
Well, I had awesome gifts. One of my family member gave money, best friend gave me 3 piece spa set and my best gift ever was my baby girl bought me a card and wrote some heart felt stuff inside it that made me cry.
Given where this is the type of Yoai where few, if any, villains will die (except for the stalker guy, and he wasn't really interesting enough to keep around), what sort of punishments would you like to see arranged for "bad guys"?
Mine is that I would like Aki or someone to set up a secluded meeting between Sakazaki and Yuri without Sakazaki knowing who Yuri is. I would like Sakasaki to sexually harass Yuri and not take no for an answer, and then for Yuri to turn on him and be full-out crazy Yuri. Later, I would like the police to show up just in time to save Sakazis life (but not his ass) and put Yuri in prison. This won't happen, but it would make me happy.
Heyyy....talking about Bad guys who died,
in Naked truth arc, Yuri died.
In Escape and love arc, the stalker died.
Who do you think will die in Pray in abyss arc???
Aaron smear him in honey and let fire ants loose in the room while he is tied to a chair. Sakaiz? remove all forms of sex from him, even his ability to cum and I would have him know it and know it was I who did it had it done .He is a M . He wants Asami to rough him up, I would remove him to a nunnery. (Yes i know it's for women). Sudou what should happen public shaming. He values his image more than anything, Let his crimes become known(leave out Takaba's name)and lie some, Sudou literally "die" of shame.
who is yuri? ( ̄∇ ̄")
Uncle Yuri is the one that got so much hate from readers because he was try to kill Takaba in Fei's cruise ship ◐△◑
lol. he was Mik's right hand. Sadly died in Asami's hand...that's what I believe.
ahahah I reread the manga and found out right away after questioning this, but thank you for answering and yeah I remember that he was most likely got attracted to aki's butt for a sec xD
wait,did he really die in ryuichi's hand? Σ(  ̄□ ̄||)
In interest of full disclosure, I used to think that whether Yuri lived or died depended on if a person takes the extra as fantasy or part of the story. Then J Unleashed made a very credible argument about how the extras were all part of the story unless clearly shown as a dream or fantasy. Now I am firmly in the "Yuri lives" camp. (I change my mind when I find the argument convincing--it's just that I often fail to be convinced by how someone else sees things--interpretation of facts being different than facts. In this matter, I think J Unleashed had it right).
I've been thinking about how most of Japan thinks Christmas is a romantic holiday and how many people here did not know "Trick or Treat" involved actual tricks, and I have concluded the word needs to watch fewer Hallmark movies and more Doctor Who (especially the holiday episodes). As the self-appointed representative of the darker side of yuletide traditions, I propose we outline a few Christmas ghost stories for Aki and Asami. I am not suggesting a full-out alien invasion of Tokyo on Christmas Eve (though if your mind takes it that way, I'm okay with it).
So what sort of supernatural visitation would you like to see your favorite characters face over the winter holidays?
ETA: Alternatively (for those who think that is too much like a full fanfic prompt), some of the characters (you pick whom) have traveled to a remote mountain lodge to negotiate some involved deal. You can decide where, as long as it is remote and it can snow there. It is December 24 and things are wrapping up when the lodge is hit by a snow storm which knocks out the cable and electricity, as well as blocking the roads. Luckily, there is a huge firepce (and wood), and food and strong, dark beer. They gather around the fire, and after eating, they decide to have a contest to see who can tell the scariest story. What kind of story would each character tell?
Since I have no original ideas of my own, so my story would be a blend of A Christmas Carol and a romantic comedy, based on my personal prejudices. Besides the acts in Vol 1, I really hate that Asami smokes and he is an inconsiderate smoker, lighting up regardless of time/place/location. The 3 ghosts will visit him and show him how things will be if he doesn't quit smoking. Akihito could end up with COPD due to second hand smoke (based on a true story) and the rom-com comes in because Asami is 12 years older, and if he gets sick, a hot, young doctor could come into the picture and try to steal Akihito away. Like I said, no imagination, but if it gets Asami to quit smoking, especially around Akihito, I'll be happy.
Asami and Takaba are sleeping after having spent couple time Dec.24. They paid no attention to the little news blip about the asteriod passing near earth that night. Suddenly the building stared to rumble and shake and sway. They woke and looked at each other, blinding light filled the room. they hugged" I love you" they said at the same as the city exploded. Asami awoke in a cold sweat. No more curry before bedtime, A Nightmare Before Xmas. Merry Xmas Every one

So I am a little slow, but I just noticed Karino's ex-girlfriend from chapter one is talking a lot to the teacher in chapter 10 (forgive me, I forgot her name):

http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/caste_heaven/raw/raw_chapter-10/pg-1/
Do you think she still has feelings for Karino, or maybe just a crush on the teacher?
You've got a point maybe she's a target now and wants some protection.
Later she cries on the teacher (I think)--do you think she told him? Would that make her a target, and if so, would that mean Azusa goes up in rank?
I dont think she's the target now. I feel like that would kinda messed everything up.
they didnt draw new cards yet , or did i miss it?
No. It's just that the rules of the game say that anyone who doesn't play or who tattles becomes the target, and in the raw it looks as if she may be spilling the beans. It's just conjecture. But if she tells, she should become the target--especially if she does it in front of everyone.
